Parts common to P6 from other makes/models

I wasn't sure if this was the correct section, but here we go. I think it might be usefull to forum/club members, to have a thread where we can see what parts there are on the P6 that are common to other makes/models of car. As i am sure some of us have found out this sometimes means that exactly the same part is priced differently for different cars. So anyone knowlegeable on parts provenance please participate in this thread.

The Rover Car Club of Canada has a version of this already on their website http://www.roverclub.ca/partsXref.html. I guess that when local parts are hard to find, necessity forced their hand at making one of these up. I have printed it out and laminated it to carry around autojumbles. I've also handwritten onto it part numbers that I know of as often its only the part number that you see at the autojumble - and of course for our consumables, we need to know the part numbers of the different brands.

You're right though, we should be able to use the combined forum knowledge to build a good information card that would serve everyone very well indeed.

Cheers,
Brian.

It also looks like some of the classic Land rover engine parts match the four pots parts. Chain adjusters for instance.

Someone , was it John Glynn , started a list of alternative parts
I remember asking if it was true Montego Diesel oil filters fitted P6 V8's - I think it is

I seem to remember that parts of the rear brakes were common with a Ford Zephyr.

Mk4 Zephyr/Zodiac use the same rear pads, and the same rear calipers. (Albeit with a different handbrake quadrant, which is interchangable with the Rover one.)

Yes Folks,
'twas me that compiled a database of service parts for the 3500 in Microsoft Works and another member (forget who, sorry!) transferred this into an Excel Spreadsheet.
Either / or / both available by e-mail request or perhaps Richard could use it as the basis for a communal parts list on the website.
Please advise.
Please be patient - Much to do and some nights away from home over the Christmas and New Year!
Regards, and Merry Christmas to all, John.

Someone told me once that Series 1 E-type Jag front calipers are the same as a P6 V8 with a Girling setup. Not sure how true that is, or what help it would be, because if you wanted to buy a pair, I reckon the retailer would see ££££'s as soon as you mention an E-type.

I looked into it once and the cars that stay in my mind are the e-type and jensen interceptor for front brake calipers, could be wrong now?

What we need to know is what is the most down market car to take the front brake pads _ Don't want to pay Jensen prices for Rover pads

Are BMC 1800 front pads compatible ?

Sorry this won't help you Dave but I've just spotted a brake servo on ebay for the 2000 and 2200 will also fit Aston Martin DB5!

I am using Ford Cortina 3L (South African spec) front pads on my P6. You need to drill out the holes for the pins a bit because the Ford is metric but they fit and work well, plus are a bit harder so last longer.

A Ford Cortina 3 litre - is that the Essex V6 or a South African straight 6 ? Why didn't we get all these interesting options without having to get a Savage or similar conversion ?

Sorry for the delay, Dave.
The Cortina in SA is fitted with the Essex V6. I think the 2l and 1600 had the same pads, but won't put my head on a block to that. They later became the Sierra and morphed into the XR8 with the small block V8 engine. Nice cars, if you like Fords.

I don't know about the UK specifications, but the Essex motor is not very good in SA, their popularity is in their numbers. They cost a lot to make them perform and they break easily too. I had a 2l Alfetta that delivered 122kw versus the V6's 101kw and I frequently used to run rings around the Ford boys. much to their disgust.
