PAE .... Sleipnir???

Re: PAE

If the car is on level ground when you're checking then it's been overfilled. If it has leaks remove and clean the breather to make sure it's not blocked.

Re: PAE

PAE will be making the short journey back from Derby tonight. Just had a call from clive to say it's all done :) (2 weeks without a car seems like forever! )

Re: PAE

Yeah... He's had a drive and said it drives well which is good to know. Last p6 I drove before pae was 10 years ago.

Re: PAE

Well PAE is home... and driving superbly. The box being right seems to show up some clonks at the back which i'll investigate in due force.

Clive has done a superb job judging by the ride home. He showed me all the individual parts he'd changed from the box, which he did himself. The bands were black and he showed me the ex diaphragm (or the 2 pieces he had) ... He sent away the torque converter to be reconditioned but that was the only thing he didnt do.

I'm very pleased with the result.

Re: PAE

Hi all, looks like the next big thing to sort on PAE is the vibrations goign through it.

Chris has given me a few suggestions to check, and i can see that the diff carrier plat appears to have a dead mount on the drivers side.

So I need to change that. The thing I'm not sure about is the mount for the diff extension. Does anybody have a picture of what this should look like?

I've taken 2 pictures:

Any comments?

Thanks,

Rich.

The vibration damper is missing from the front of the pinion housing.

Re: PAE

Well that would probably explain that one then wouldn't it ;)

Would that be the piece highlighted on this pice lifted from Tor's thread?

There's a leicester based auction on ebay for a pinion extension and diff at the moment, so maybe this will have the correct part on!

*Edit - if that's the right part that doesnt have it on either.*

I did read somewhere about early cars not having all the things to counter vibration. Is this one of them?

Thanks,

Rich.

Re: PAE

That is it, and I think you may be right about the early cars not having them, but yours does have the bosses for the rubbers cast into the pinion housing so I'd assume yours should have one fitted. Fitting doesn't necessarily mean you'll cure the vibration you've got, but it will be one more thing eliminated if that turns out to be the case.
I have one if the ones you're looking at dont work out.

Re: PAE

Thanks Harvey. I've mailed the guy to ask if he has the damper. If he has i'll get it from him locally or i'll be intouch with you shortly :)

Thanks,

Rich

Re: PAE

My TC had the harmonic damper bashed towards the diff and done up solid. I ran it without till I dug out a good one from stock and the outcome was that it was smooth with it in any position, with or without

I guess if something wasn't fully balanced it may help kill the vibes :)

Re: PAE

So probably not a panacea? If looking at the front of the diff how can I see if the mount or bush are in good order?

Thanks

Rich.

Re: PAE

Well on the way to wakefield PAE cooked it's recon gearbox. (Yes PAE is an it now ;) ).

Today was MOT day. They said theyd try and do it, but epic fail. Reverse is too slippy to get it out of their brake rollers they recon...

So gearbox back to Clive's first i guess!
