P6 Bulkhead Insulation/Soundproofing

When removing my driver's side glovebox to replace some broken rivets on the hinge bar, I was reminded of the poor state of my bulkhead insulation/trim panels. Driver's side is tatty with the black card/plastic cracked in several places. Passenger side is mostly absent, leaving visible bare floorpan beyond where the carpet finishes. My car is a Series 1 2000 SC with the hessian/jute/compostable soundproofing stuck to the back. Looking at some replacements on eBay they seem to have a more modern sponge foam backing. Was this used for Series 2 cars? I'm thinking it would tidy up my footwells and possibly reduce some of the musty smell, that comes from 56 years of decay and rot.

Has anyone replaced the bulkhead trim/soundproofing panels, or is it better not to bother and stick on some more modern closed cell foam in a dark colour?

My car was parked in the rain with a window open at some point in its first ownership, so the whole interior got damp. It smells very distinctive!

I used 12mm sound insulating foam with high mass vinyl to deaden sound and vibration. It made a real difference to noise and fatigue on long journeys, absolutely worth the effort. There’s some work in progress pics here.

Getting back on the road

To cut the story short, apparently you have completed the body restoration in a just a couple of weeks! You deserve to feel satisfied. ;) Not just yet Demetris, but certainly the structural stuff. Feels good.

Other plus is it insulates against heat too. A real plus in the summer.
