I'm sure quite a few of us on here will have some tucked away on their hard drive....

To start us off...

Leicester, November 1966...having swept away the "slums" in this area, the ring road underpass taking shape. Subsequently, the slab-sided architectural gem known as the Holiday Inn would be built in the foreground over the underpass. Thankfully, I can't find a modern equivalent aerial view online.

A City Centre landmark in 1968...the Bell Hotel in Humberstone Gate:

...and its demolition in 1970 to make way for part of the Haymarket Shopping Centre:

Some good photos there.

I particularly like the demolition of the Bell Hotel, which was obviously before any form of elf'n'safety

of course over the last couple of years theyve talked about demolishing both of these buildings... to be honest i think people need to stop demolishing things so easily and think about how to renovate what theyve got!

Agreed Mr R/D, that's the society of today, it's a throw away world at the moment. Something breaks or doesn't work, bin it and get a new one

Don't get me started on the 'throw away' society we live in. Only yesterday our hoover 'broke', and during the hour it took me to fix I was asked 'Why don't you just get a new one?"
It is very hard to teach kids the value of anything nowadays if all they are prepared to do is chuck something away that is perfectly repairable, or upgrade to the latest model just because it is in fashion (only to replace that a year or so later :x ).

Besides, no new hoover = another tank of fuel for Rover :) I know which I would prefer.

Maybe because we are all required to repair other than replace items on our cars, we are more aware of this wastage.

Sorry. Rant over:- I'll carry me coat, it's too hot to wear it in this weather :?

Not enough of the filthy lucre to be made over that option, is there?

The telephone box has moved, the bike's tyres are flat and that monkey puzzle tree is no more, otherwise - no change.

I've no pictures myself but lately I've been looking at/obsessing over a website called Skyscrapercity. I found some fantastic photos of Newcastle and Gateshead on there and it's scandalous how much beautiful architecture (and history) we lost in the name of progress! I highly recommend a look at the site, it's so easy to lose a few hours there

Here's a pic of Enfield Town that I found not living there now but spent 43 years there...
