Occie gets some new carpets!

Eagle-eyed forumites will have spotted during the gearbox thread/saga that, as well as having taken the seats out for refurb at the back end of last year, I'd also stripped out the carpets which were a little past their sell-by.

Now...certainly not for the the purists and probably not some people's cup of tea, but I thought I'd go for something a little different. :)

Bought from Danbury Classic Carpets, who also trade on ebay as tripar3. Maybe I missed a trick not knowing he supplied the tunnel carpet in 2 sections, but hey...thought I'd see what it looked like! Not 100% pleased with some aspects - particularly the A post treatment - but generally the fit and quality are very good. Although I'm blowed if I can figure out how to make a flat carpet successfully transform itself to a three-dimensional transmission tunnel curve successfully.

(By the way, the strange angle of the gearknob is due to the fact it's not screwed on - just resting on the lever. Still need to decide which way I'm going with this)

Ready to fit these...

...which have been languishing in the spare bedroom (a la pilkie  ) since the Woolies treatment a month or three ago. :)

And I think that might be me about done now for the winter...time to put some miles on the old girl. At last.

Hello Stan,

The red carpets look really excellent... :D

I have always liked red carpets. The Humber that my Dad had when I was a boy had red carpets, and although they would not go with my Saffron Rover, with Occie being red they look just tops.

In fact Occie look brilliant all round, a Rover you can be truly proud of.

Ron.

Excellent!
The only problem now is that you'd probably hesitate to step in, so not to spoil the new look of the carpets...
By the way, the factory carpet on the tunnel is a vertical cut n' shut job, as it is on the A post, there is no other way around.
As for the gear knob, IMHO the SD1 item looks out of place, a standard P6 knob (with the new gear pattern engraved perhaps? ) should lower it and look standard. Moreover, if you can remove just the lever and make it shorter, even down to series 1 items, it would be even better.
But all these are details anyway, get out and enjoy it is the first priority!

Hi Stan .
Looks classy in there ! Bet it smells good to , new leather and carpet .

Looking really good Stan.
Carpets are a bit of a pain and a smooth perfect fit on the A post, tranny tunnel and other fiddly area's is,IMHO not attainable.
Do the best fit you can, leave it a while to settle then try and smooth out a bit more if poss.
I really must get my spare bronze seats out of the spare room and do the woolies thing to them before the newly painted panels come back for the planned Easter hols refurb.
Hope to see you at Malvern with occie, but doubt I will have mine done in time,so will be in Connor the 2000sc.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone!

Must admit, I hummed and hahed over the colour for quite a while but now it's fitted I'm glad I went for it.

I think you're spot on there Demetris. I just want to drive Occie for a while whilst casting around for a suitable knob, then decide by how much I want to shorten the lever.

Now, if you'll excuse me.....time for a drive! :)

Cheers Dave,

Yes, got my ticket yesterday for Malvern - so see you on Easter Sunday!

Well, in the interests of improved feel and useability, it could be done....

Stan

Once again a top job there. The red carpets look very plush indeed and set off the bucksin interior perfectly.

Dave

Looking good !
I think this shows that if you want red carpets ,then go ahead .Some people will object but it's yours to do what you want with it

Are the carpets glue backed? I bought a carpet set for a car last year - terrible fit (though I knew this from reading reviews on the net). I used a hairdryer for a few hours in certain places and the carpet softened and drooped into place after a while.

I like the red carpet!
