No brake lights!

Hi all

Seems to be a common problem with P6's, but the brake lights are up the swanee. They work when i put the headlights on so could it be the brake light switch thats faulty? Am i right in thinking this is located under the brake servo? Or could it be a fuse? A wiring diagram eould be handy if theres one on the forum somewhere

Final question: which fuse is the brake light fuse?!

Thanks all

Hi, Is it series 1 or series 2? Is anything else not working? Is there power at the brake light switch? You could try checking the loom for damage, it may have lost its live feed but is getting some with the lights on. It could be down to a cut or a burnt wire in the loom. Another place there could be a cross connection is the printed circuit board on the back of the instrument cluster, I think it was Vaultsman that had problems there.

Switch is here

I take it you mean the rear lights work with the headlights on, I can't imagine how the brake lights, which are a different filament in the same bulb would work on the headlight circuit.

If you pull the wires off the switch and hold them together with the ignition on, the brake lights should work. If they do, then the switch is at fault.

What model and year car do you have

My old car was a 73 3500S and had a chassis suffix 'D.'

As long as yours is a 'D' then the fuse is fuse 19-20. It also runs the instrument gauges, reversing lamps and indicators.

It should tell you what fuse runs what on the lid of your fuse box.

If your hydraulic fluid is dirty, the you are more likely to have hydraulic switch problems. Have you flushed out the fluid within living memory?
