As much as I love it I've decided I'm sick of buying petrol for my beloved Volvo 940 so it's going up for sale & I've bought this to replace it, it's a 2003 ZT-T CDTi & it uses half the fuel which is nice :D

Is it Aurora? It's certainly a nice, clean looking ZT-T.

It's Orange Grove & scrubs up lovely, it was a bit grotty inside but it's responding well to a bit of hard work (stinks of dogs though)

Has that got the BMW diesel engine ? Supposed to be the best of the bunch

It has Dave & it's the higher output 131bhp version but is also fitted with a Synergy 2 which boosts it to around 150bhp & doesn't harm the fuel consumption

As for all the Rover 75s MG ZTs before you buy make sure the A/C fans work when A/C is operated and is ice cold as the fans/relays are very scarce and nightmare of a job to replace  go to mg rover.org for all the info you need

The main things to watch with the 75/ZT are blocked drains in the bulkhead (under wiper panel) as the ECU is under there & can get flooded, cooling fans are an issue (check the slow speed comes on with aircon) on earlier cars as they had a poor 3 speed fan (hard to obtain) which fails quickly, later ones have a 2 speed with a resistor for the slow speed & the resistors are prone to failure. A reasonably priced upgraded resistor is available for the 2 speeders but it's a bumper off job around a tenner or £25 for one ready drilled & with the right connectors etc, I replaced my 3 speeder with a 2 speed Kenlowe last weekend & although it's a big job it's an absolute doddle to do & only took me 4 hours. Cambelts on the V6 need doing every 75,000 or 6 years & are a big job & pricey (should change all tensioners & water pump) other than that they are just a car the same as any other & things can go wrong. There is a very good forum at http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/ where you can learn a lot about them

You did say your brother was looking at a 2.5 That's the petrol V6 . It is generally reckoned the diesel is the best though

It is better  its a chain driven (BMW) M47 engine and bullet proof and drives like a petrol but with economy i know i have had 3 of them :D I preffer the MG ZTT 131bhp to the slooow but comfortable Rover 75 version my advice is drive as many variants as you can and see

Any points about this one to be aware of.

ROVER 75 CONNOISSEUR SE 2.5 AUTO

My brothers thinking of buying one.

1) make sure radiator fan is working on all speeds. These cars use a 2 or 3 speed fan and the lower speeds burn out through constant use due to air con. Replacement motor/controller is £380 plus VAT plus 2.5 hours labour.
2) make sure inlet manifold (large black plastic bit on top of engine towards rear) is not rattling. Replacement manifold is £550 plus VAT. NB The purge valve operation can be mistaken for a broken inlet manifold.
3) Check for water leak from thermostat (buried in the V of the engine). Replacement thermostat is £58 plus VAT, but requires between 2.5 and 4 hours to replace depending upon age of vehicle.
