Hi there everybody!

My name is Thijs, I'm a 19-year-old medicine student and, more important for this forum, Rover 2200TC owner from The Netherlands. :) I've loved classic cars and motorbikes since I was a little boy, might you be wondering what a young guy like me likes in such and old car, hehe. I started out with a lovely Kreidler moped (1967) when I was 15 years old, which was followed by a lovely Moto Guzzi V35 from 1982 in may 2010.

How did I get a hold of my amazing Rover? Well... My father texted me a picture of an ad in a Classic Car magazine while he was in Italy last summer. The text said: "Hi there Thijs, just look at the price of this car, we'd be crazy if we didn't go out and bought this!" So I did a few weeks later!

Anyhow, before I continue, here are some pictures of my Rover:

Because she needs some welding, her current state is:

It's a lovely car, drives very nice, but she needs some work. Both of the 'kokerbalken' (I don't know the English term, but I'm talking about the structural metal beams alongside of the car, beneath the doors) need, at least partial, replacement, the exhaust needs some attention and the rear brake pads need to be changed. Apart from that I need to replace the hidious speakers some previous owner fitted, and I need to find a period-correct radio. Do you have any idea what kind of radio they originally fitted in the 2200TC? Or wasn't it an original extra and we're all of them fitted afterwards.

To close this first post up, I'll place a picture of my lovely Moto Guzzi.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Looks like a lovely car - that's not a huge welding job - a little effort and you'll have a brilliant car.

Take a look at my efforts in http://www.classicroverforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8713

Rich.

I'm not going to tackle it myself. It's not a huge problem and I've done some welding, but I want this done perfectly. The local classic car garage owner is extremely skilled with a welding machine. I've seen miracles being performed on a Porsche that was in a very bad crash. :) If everything goes according to plan, I'm bringing the car in this week.

Hi Thijs

(how is that pronounced by the way?)

That looks a nice car. Sometimes when the opportunity presents you just have to dive in there. The kokerbalken or sill as we call it doesn't look too bad. I've seen a lot worse (on my own car  ) and as Rich (rockdemon) says not a huge job.

Good luck with it.

Like the Moto Guzzi too and is that a Lotus Elan behind the Rover? :D

Hi there Dave,

pronouncing my name is rather hard if you're not Dutch... It's sort of like the word 'ice' but not exactly the same... There is a fonetic 'a' in ice (ais?) that you don't so much have in my name... Most English people I know don't get a lot further than pronouncing it as Tice, so I'll settle for that.

Sills, that was the English word... :) I called the garage today, but they had a break-in this week in which the safe with all the important documents was stolen. That put a stop on his work for this week, but I'm going to bring in my car next week.

The Moto Guzzi is an amazing machine, sounds great. Here's some footage of it: click!

You are correct, it's my dad's Lotus Elan +2. Amazing car. :D Here's a picture of it, still with the English plates on it.

Hello and welcome to the forum from another 19 year-old P6 owner! Your car looks fantastic in the photos, I wish I could have insured a TC. I look forward to reading your progress on this car. Good luck with the welding.

Ah, thát's your car... I really love it! Amazing 2000, the colour is just great! :D Digging your photography as well, you took some great pictures of that lovely motor. 8)

I went to the local garage yesterday, after a quick examination it was crystal clear... My car is damn solid! The sills are good, the floors are good! It's just some 'cosmetic' work on the corners and ends of the sills. This will save me lots and lots of money, I think I'm going to invest it in a proper Stainless Steel exhaust system. :)

I'm dropping the car of this tuesday, it won't be long before he finishes the welding. 8)

Great result Thijs! Try and get some pictures during the welding for your history file.

...and so we can have a look as well!

Excellent news! If you're getting a stainless exhaust, ask to see the previous work of the company. I didn't and paid for it dearly. A good stainless exhaust is outstanding, a bad one is awful!

Dropped of the Rover today, the owner of the garage (who will do the welding) wasn't in... He'll be in two hours, so I'm dropping in at 5 o'clock to discuss the plans. :)

Someting completely different: I passed my first motor exam today! Braking, turning, making eights, avoiding obstacles... All flawless, that means I only have to do my exam on the road next for my licence. :D 8)

@Frazzle: Thank you for the advice.

Hi Thijs

Thanks for the explanation of how to pronounce your name.

That Lotus Elan does look good. Good to hear that your car is reasonably solid. It does look good in the photos and will look even better when you know all the cosmetic bits have been sorted.
