Hi just purchased my 1972 P6
From Auckland. I'm in Wellington. I took the risk and bought site unseen and had it transported the 600km.
I must admit I was expecting problems but was pleasantly surprised. It's straight as not even a ding. Original paint, seats squabs not worn, only tear at the top of rear seat backs. Also has good chromed set of rostil wheels.
Motor is giving consistant 50 psi oil pssure and not a puff of oily smoke from its tail.Has current registration and warrant of fitness. All good to go.
But but I can't help myself, I am going to take all the panels off and remove minor rust spots and repaint.
Currently has apricot with tan interior. I'd like to change to red . What's the thoughts on this.????
That yellow car is my just about completely ground up restoration. 1974 jensen healey
Cheers Stewart

Hi Stewart, looks like another nice P6 joining the ranks of collector cars in NZ. My car is Bitter Apricot with tan trim, your car looks like it's Almond.

Hi Woody.
You may be able to help me . Where do I find the paint code located on the body?

Hi Stewart, I recognise that car. I supplied a few bits for it a couple of owners back before he sold it to buy a P5B. I believe it was the subject of a NZ Herald article on classics and their owners a couple of years ago. It is definitely Almond with a Sandalwood vinyl interior. There may be a paint code sticker under the bonnet, usually on the passenger side inner wing near the large service specs label but they often fall off or go missing.

Yep those photos show Almond and Sandalwood, death to the cold custard! Almonds not to bad I guess but there are a huge range of Rover colours that the P6 came out in many did not appear on the NZ assembled cars However other colours that were meant for the Trumpy range were used in the NZ factory on the P6.
Here is a useful link to Ruedigers database on Rover colours Colours.

Like you I bought my car sight unseen, although I had a mechanic friend look it over before parting with the money. Initially I thought it was Pimento Red but yesterday, it's first morning here in Perth, the sun on the bonnet left no doubt that it is Bitter Apricot. Unlike you I have a lot of work ahead of me to get it back into good running order, but that was part of the reason to buy it, it will keep me out of trouble.

Hi Woodie.
Ha ha . Like you I the last car i bought was to keep me out of trouble. The trouble was I took on a bigger rebuild than I first planned. 4 1/2 years later , a lot of evenings out in the shed working on the jensen. When ever my wife suggested we have a nice night out I would grab the garage key.
I did all the myself except for the acid dipping . That's when the work (nightmare ) begun.
But near the end now and I wonder where time went.
I am being more cautious this time and will try for a running restoration. .
Good luck with your project.
If you can do as much yourself I sheds the best satisfaction.
See pics of my last project. The pic of the white car is where it began.
Cheers Stewart

Welcome Kiwi Stew. Tempting though the P6 is to people (like you and me) who get a kick out of dismantling old cars, you're not going to remain in your wife's good books very long if you pick your new '72 to pieces to the same degree you did your Jensen project! Which looks great by the way. Wise indeed is the P6 owner who goes the running restoration route.
