Folks
Just to let you know this esteemed event is on Sunday and the Rover P6 Club will be there with two P6's being sorted on the stand - one of which will be my 2200 auto, which will be getting a roof and rear valance change.

See you there if you're coming
Cheers
Nick

Likewise Nick, also meeting up with Bri.
You wouldnt happen to have a round dial dash top going spare would you?
Old chap near me has got a whopping crack in his 3500's.
He wants me to find and fit a replacement.
He followed me home one day to make contact,he cant do the jobs he used to,doesnt have a pc,so needs another enthusiastic and willing pair of hands to help out now and then.

I'll have a look in the stores tomorrow Dave. We should have one, if not Mark Gray will have one.
Let you know ASAP.

Hi All
I would like to thank all of you, who took the time to visit us on The Rover P6 Club display at the National Restoration Show, Stoneleigh on Sunday. We had a very successful display which included replacing a roof and rear valance on a 2200 Auto and also rebushing the rear suspension on a Series 1 V8. Both cars drove home after all jobs were completed within the time of the show.

Thank you for visiting us at Stoneleigh and we'll look forward to seeing you all at the NEC in a few weeks time. We will be in Hall 3, display stand number 3C44 with eleven P6's.

I was at the show and popped over to see the club.

First time I tried to engage someone in conversation about the club and what you got from it, he was too busy painting a De Dion tube, second time there was a chap talking to someone else so I waited patiently only for him to wander off after he had finished, third time I almost got someone's attention but a chorus of 'Happy birthday to You' erupted and he rushed off towards the candled cake, fouth time everyone seemed just too busy, and fifth time everyone just sat around seemingly deliberately ignoring me. :?

Maybe I have the sort of face which looks like I have already been served, but I amust admit to feeling cold shouldered.

I popped down to the RSR stand and joined up.

Apologies to anyone who might have thought they were cold shouldered by me....there was maximum stress!

We did a roof change on my 2200 - the original of which had some serious denting in it after being subjected to an assault by persons unknown.

This and changing the rear valance for a newly painted rust-free one was an all day job. My car now has a straight black vinyl roof and new rear valance, but it was a major day's work. I never got off the stand to have a look round.

They were very busy on their stand!

I was there with Pilkie and we butted in with "Are you Nick Dunning!" to a chap in overalls trying to manhandle a car's headlining! (fortunately it was). Then butted in again with "Which one of you is Mark Gray then?"

It's easy to stand and wait patiently as a true Englishman, and then just as easy to be ignored - It's happened to me many times Quattro, many times in the P6ROC - now I'm a bit more pushy!

I also had a good chat with Matt Wright (editor of Practical Classics) and Sam Glover (features writer) both at the P6Club stand, being very interested in the goings on.

I think there is a lesson there though for all clubs, it's great having a very busy active stand, but you need some 'meet and greet' volunteers as well.

Bri.

You are right there Brian, meet & greet would be a good idea, so when are are you joining, to help?.

That said, I spent all day talking to many different people, yourself and Pilkie included and if I missed you Quattro, please accept my sincere apologise, because I know for sure, we definitely didn't diliberately ignor anyone. In fact I ate two ham rolls while talking to different people and I thought to myself afterwards, how ignorant of me, to do it, but it was truely manic all day with no rest-bites.
It's strange you should mention the birthday chorus as well, because at the time, my thoughts went to wondering whether the fire alarms would be triggered by the smoke from the candles on the cake!

However this does highlight a problem that I feel forums have, especially when members have identifications other than their actual names, because I suppose you would have felt uncomfortable shouting to one of us, 'Hello I'm Quattro from the forum!' Although that said, I would still have been none the wiser at that time and again please accept my apologies, for not noticing your good self.

It was good to meet you on the stand Mark,it sure was busy in there!!
Having a forum ID tag is a little like the old days of CB radio.
Now its online and cyberspace.
Most of us on the forum who communicate frequently know each other on first name terms, its sort of an ice breaker.
I could of called myself dave-pilkington,bit longwinded though,so I use my nickname on all forums and Ebay.
Some prefer a bit of privacy.
The forum is,as it was meant to be an easy to use tool for the rover owners all over the world, that may not really benefit from being a club member, but need immediate online assistance to help with any problems they have.
It definately should not be the domain of club members only!
How many P6 owners are out there worldwide that are not members, probably 1000's!
With this forum they have access to help, advice, contacts for suppliers,24/7,365 days a year.
Information about P6's in my view should be freely available to those who need it!!
It is already out there,it just takes some finding, and helping those who need it,get it,in my book goes a long way to get the appreciation of owners, and therefore the possibility they may join up.
If they then get what they want out of a club, they will continue to be members,if not then they wont!
Having a closed shop/ie keeping it all for club members only will only serve to alienate P6 owners who do not,for whatever reason want to be a club member.
Some people just cannot handle talking to or asking strangers in person, for advice.
With the forum its sort of a cloak,no face to face contact, easily terminated.
I have been a member of both clubs, and now I am not a member of either.
The rover p6 clubs forum I found extreemly un-user freindly,so I used like very many I believe, this one.
I get all the contact, info I want from this forum and meet many owners at car shows.
I am however going to join the RSR for next years season, and see how it goes.
Myself and Brian have a little MSN messenger group, that I started for fun,its called "PILKIES CLASSIC CAR NUTS" .
There are currently 6 of us,1 is in the states.
We sometimes have live chat till the early hours about all things, not just cars, share pics, some have webcam and skype.
Its cheaper than the phone line.
If you are wanting to join in the chat, drop me or brian a pm.
its free, funny at times, rude at others, just like pub talk.
Anyway, better go eat before I starve, oh and feed my pussy!

TTFN... dave

I was sorry to see that the P6ROC were not there, but more than happy to see both of the others clubs which I had thought of joining, were indeed there with stands.

I must admit that I wasn't wearing a badge with 'quattro' on it although thanks to someone on here (Can't rememeber who) I do have one. Sparky always wears his when in a show. I was wearing one of these though - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ANOTHER-ROVER-P6- ... 9502fbcf82

The very brief chat I had with the chap painting the DeDion (who was this btw?) was supposed to lead into asking about the club, but after a very brief exchange about the benefits of POR 15 over the Hammerite he was using, he was interupted by someone else and walked off as I was asking if the club did a lot of this sort of thing. I would love to get involved in attending events and talking to people on stands, and getting my hands dirty with some renovation work.

When I went down to RSR's Range Rover (they had their stand stolen) there were two people talking to the chap behind the little counter. I stood by and waited but they all turned to me and one stated, 'P6B owner then?' After chatting for half an hour or so, I joined up.

On leaving I saw someone in the distance putting something into this

I thought, 'I bet that's Pilkie' but he went back into the main hall before I could get over to say hello. So, Hello Pilkie.

I will see what RSR have to offer this year, although I will be rejoining the P6ROC as well.

I will get to meet some peeps next time - am bidding on one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-Portable-25W ... 3ca6dc2b0f

Hi Quattro.
Yep thats mine and it was me,either loading the bargain ultra low entry saddle big trolley jack I snapped up very early on for £15 or getting my dinner out of the boot!!
It would of been good to meet you, will happen someday, somewhere no doubt.

What do the RSR offer for P6 owners ?

From a personal perspective the great positives are the excellent magazine and shows. Some of the best shows I've ever attended have been RSR events. It's a very big, very well organised and friendly Club.

Personally I've met some great friends through the RSR. The Club is for all cars, but traditionally caters for pre-P4's in particular. They're also pretty strong on 1980's onwards Rovers - some fascinating articles on recent Rover history have appeared in recent times.

But any Club is what you make of it - what you put into it, and what you want out of it.

Cheers
Nick
