Right!..bit of an update guys. My rover TC is now back on the road..but first a quick update Now my history with
P6's began only last september when i purchased a blue SC Auto off ebay from some chap in southampton. Was told
at the time it needed "some welding" but to cut a long story short, was hanging underneath and had got so bad it
was beyond my finances. I sold the car on to a friend of mine who took it on as a project as he could weld. In the
meantime i went on and purchased another, this time a TC again from Ebay and brought it back from Lincolnshire
without problems. I was aware at the time that the bottom end was knocking at higher revs, but most old engines
can go on forever like this, so just put up with it. By the end of december it had become quite poorly despite me
nursing everywhere and eventually gave up one day in early January. I was able to drive it home, but on inspection
revealed it now had low compression on one cylinder and was now making a hell of a racket from the top-end.
I spoke to my mate who'd had my first car, who had decided it was actually beyond his skill to really repair it or even
get it to a mot standard, and i agreed to buy the car back for the engine and for spares. Now i didn't really want to
see a P6 scrapped, but with the advice of my friends i decided it was the best, not to mention most sensible thing
to do bearing in mind the car was local, and had all the bit's i'd need, not to mention a load of useful spares.
SInce then ive been busy. The last two weeks have been spent stripping one car for all its parts, removing engine etc and
disposing of the rest. My TC has been up at a mates garage, where ive spent the last week off work removing and
switching engines which has been a learning curve!.
My first time doing an engine swap. Went very well all things considered. My TC had always been a manual, but the donor
engine was in an auto, so ive spent time switching fly-wheels, putting in a new spigot bearing and taken the chance to fit a new clutch.... it's all gone very smoothly.
I was able to use the exhaust from the Auto on my TC which fit fine with a bit of adjustment and the engine turn's out to be
sweet as a nut ....Next onto the paint work. Ive sourced some 3500 wheel trims, and a vinyl roof kit which she's going have after ive had the body-work tidyed up.
Anyway enough rambling. Time to put the kettle on, and here's some pictures for your amusement!.
Just one corner of the reasons why this wont see the road again
My lovely TC having a heart transplant!
Final connection of gearbox back up to engine, then its radiator back in, few bits and bobs, then time for another well deserved cuppa
