Re: My 3500S Ground Up Resto (Updated)

Looks like the welder kept you warm this winter! Are you planning to repaint it in the original colour? Of course I'm biased but I believe it to be one of the best on a Rover.

Re: My 3500S Ground Up Resto (Updated)

Many thanks for all the positive feedback.

Makes all the long cold hours in the garage worth it.....

A quick update on recent progress.

I'm in the process of replacing the OS B Post with a NOS one that I picked up later year. In order to unpick all of the original factory spot welds the roof has to come off.

To reveal a completely rotten roof gutter... The stainless trim was held in place by around half a pound in weight of black mastic!!

Before removing the original B Post and with reference to the dimensions in the factor manual for using a Churchill jig I built three reference point markers. They are basically made from 3mm thick wall square section, with a 6 inch nail welded at the center of each measurement, with a small sleeve slipped over the nail to make them a tight fit into each of the door hinge mounting points.

Old B Post fully removed, and the inner "spine" cleaned up and given a quick coat of Zinc based primer.

As the NOS B Post had about 30 years of surface rust, it was dipped in a solution of rust remover (Bilt Hambler Deox), and then zinc sprayed for protection.

Will be welding this (fingers crossed) on either this or next weekend as soon as the new door treads arrive.

Will update as I move (slowly) forward...... :D

Two questions :-

1) How long did it take ?
and
2) Is the other side as bad !

Respect

1) About 7 man days of work to get to this stage spread over several months, including un-pickking all of the bodgers previous work, as well as prepping the cut out section. Took me several weeks of hunting to track down a donor that I could take the cut out section from as well.

2) Yes about the same, so will be on the look out for the same cut out from a donor in the not too near future.

Third question,

3) How do you feel about an all expenses paid trip to Australia and free accommodation until you complete the required bodywork on my P6?

I'll even let you come in the winter so you don't fry to the floor creeper or any other metal work nearby.

Q

I can only say this makes the welding I have left to do seem like a pleasure cruise. You have a lot of patience. Great work !!
