Monday Morning blues and British Gas

If he drove into the back of a parked car I'd put money on him being on his mobile phone. Either on the internet, facebook or text.

Thanks all :D your concern is all much appreciated.

I have stopped shaking now, but had to go to the doctors with ringing in my ears and a headache last night. Apparently its all part of a thing called Whiplash, so will be claiming for that.

It looks like it will be a new wing, light cluster (That one was brand new and in the box when I got it), rear door (its creased), rear bumper (deep gouge on the edge but strangely still straight, and rear valance (the wing was torn out of it and it's buckled).

Didn't touch the bootlid, and the base unit looks ok.

How much is that rear bumper Pilkie?

Richard

PS The police say they won't be prosecuting as 'these things happen' but I am concerned that he told them he applied his brakes and skidded into me because of the wet/slippery road surface. Surely a 60 plate VW is going to have ABS, so either he is lying or driving a defective vehicle. I may have to have a word with the boys and girls in blue about that bit.

As he went into the back of you, that is driving without due care and attention,as he was clearly not driving to the prevailing conditions!
It wouldnt surprise me if he was on the phone, and that is easy for the police to find out via call records!
Any witnesses coming forward?
Many company vehicles have a tracker and that can tell its speed and if he braked!
Any obvious skid marks?
Will pm you details about the bumper.

Just had their insurance company on the phone.

They have admitted liability. :)
They have accepted the agreed value of £13,000 :D
They will not be sending an assessor as it will NOT be written off :D :D :D
And they will accept two quotes from P6 specialists of my choice - and have agreed to pay up. :D :D :D :D 8) 8)

Yes, I have pinched myself and NO I have not been taking any drugs

Richard

This was only in a phone call though :?

Great news Richard :D

As for the police prosecuting, well it would cost them too much time and money to pursue this even if the other guy has admitted liability. I've had a parked car with no-one else in it driven into from the rear previously. How can that not be an easy prosecution as no-one else is involved so it must surely be driving without due care and attention? I just don't think the police are interested unless there is a camera and a heavy fine to line their coffers involved

Dave

I was shocked to see the pictures of Sparky like that Richard, although it sounds like the insurance company are being reasonable about it.

Was anyone else surprised at the state of the van afterwards?

Glad to here the insurance company is playing ball Richard.
I agree with what Dave said about the police..
And Im not suprised about the damage to the van, after all it hit a propper car with real metal...

Glad it's being sorted Mr Q. On the plus side you will have no problem matching the paint as it was only done a few months ago, you take care of that headache and the ringing in the ears, I have heard that can linger on for a few weeks, hope your neck and shoulders don't stiffen up as well

as I saw the start of the thread and thought the worst :( Gutted for you mate  At least their insurance is playing ball, there's a proper reason for an agreed valuation.

good grief where do they 'train' these morons? Had our metro written off by a tesco 'driver' what a nightmare. Their insurance was much more stupid than your 'opponent's' has been mind.

Also, well done for not lamping the bloke Richard, that's some impressive self restraint.

Hope the back & neck doesn't take too long to heal :)

Dam shame such a great looking car and wish you luck in getting it back to its former glory

who gives these morons a licence

Richard,

As with everyone else here I am bummed to find out about you and Sparky's Monday morning, and I wish you both a speedy recovery. If you have any doubts about the sincerity of the phone conversation I would suggest that you send a confirming letter explaining your understanding of the discussion - at least that way you will have documented the event, and it will tell the insurance company that you mean business - if they don't respond with a different version of events then your letter will serve as the "official record."

All the best.

Perhaps you should be grateful that the police aren't prosecuting. My Citroen C5 was written off three months ago in a head-on collision. The other driver legged it from the scene but the local police were very efficient in tracking him down and arresting him for drink driving. The problem is that his insurers are refusing to accept liability until they've seen the police report and the police won't issue their report until the conclusion of legal proceedings, so three months later I'm still waiting. That said, is it any wonder that driving standards are so bad when the police are so lax about prosecuting bad driving?

My point exactly, they only ever go for easy targets

I'm sorry to hear of your grief Richard. It seems to me that, of late, most P6's should have a target on them, as there's been so many shunted recently. I'm sure that (by what I've read) you'll be compensated for the aggro caused.

It's ready :D :D  8)

Just off to collect him from Derby 8)

Richard

Better remember to take the bumper and rear light cluster.
