Bought a "Momo Indy" wood steering wheel on ebay the other day thoroughly expecting it to be a lump of junk when it arrived.
Got it today and am very very pleasantly surprised, has a selection of wear marks etc but is in far better condition than I was expecting and the boss turned out to be the correct fitment for the P6 so it fitted straight on with the only change being moving the old indicator cancelling piece over from my old wheel. The screws mounting the wheel to the boss are rather dull and corroded but it should be easy enough to get some fresh replacements for these.
Feels so much better to drive with the smaller wheel on too, much less like being the captain of the titanic with the huge old one and yet not so small as to adversely effect stability. It does get in the way of the dials somewhat but not to the point of this becoming a problem either, just the rev counter that is slightly obscured from my driving position.
I'm also really happy with how it improves the look of the cabin, I know wood wheels are not everyone's cup of tea but I'm very happy with the results especially for the $39 + $19 shipping that it cost me!
I'm not entirely sure what sort of age the wheel is, it looks pretty period to me and i think it fits quite well with the car. Anyone know any more about these wheels/what sort of era they were made?
Here's some pics of after and before, and the condition of my old wheel with the horrible plastic cover that had been put over it removed.
Cheers,
Al
