Manifold bolts - replacing the 3 exhaust clamps studs

My exhaust is blowing, The threads on the 3 studs on the manifold have rusted away.

Has anyone replace them without removing the manifold, or is it not even worth trying ?

If I do remove the manifold is it true they don't have gaskets to fit to the block ? ???

It's true, they don't have gaskets between manifold and head but SD1 V8 cars did/do and these will fit as some blowing is inevitable until any small gap is "coked-up".
I wouldn't have thought changing the 3 studs was easy, or even possible in-situ, I would recommend removing the manifold as the easiest option. Good luck.
Regards, John.

Removing the manifolds is easy enough, then it becomes a matter of drilling out the old studs, re-tapping and fitting the new studs. When you re fit the manifolds a smear of grease instead of gaskets will stop any initial blows, and use brass nuts on the downpipe flange to avoid the problem re occurring.

The hard part is getting at the rear lower manifold bolt on a 3500S , any ideas ? From underneath ? Remove starter motor ?

Can't say I've ever had a problem. If they're fitted with the proper lockwashers I've always found that prising back the lockwasher reveals a bolt that's loose.
If you mean the drivers side, remove the brake m/cyl heatshield.

i agree with harveyp6,ther're not to difficult unless you make them so, ie:by leaving the awkward one till last and having to balance on one leg with the other wedged firmly in the engine bay whilst balancing a heavy manifold in one hand and undoing the bolt with the other :D :D

Mine has gaskets between the manifolds and the cylinder heads. I sometimes find that getting both down pipes to locate in the manifolds can be a pain, so a little trick I use is to support the downpipes where they join together with an axle stand, and then slowly lower the car down onto them, so that they are held in place when they are located, and it makes it easier to refit the manifold nuts.

The studs on my manifolds were shot, so I fitted a good pair of second hand manifolds to save on any trauma! :D
