Hi all,

Finally some pics of the rescued v8 my dad has taken ownership of :)

A crusty rear wing, sound underside by the looks of it. Interior is really nice with a few extras. No spark so the wiring needs attention but engine is turning over fine. Got a few hints on the electronic ignition unit to try...

Rich.

Very nice indeed, what a great save...

What are the extras that this old beast possesses?!

Don't forget it has no brakes...!!!

I remember those Sparkrights coming out.
IIRC correctly the toggle switch has three positions.
Position 1 is electronic ignition(using the point to trigger)
Position 2 is off(no spark- anti theft)
Position 3 ordinary ignition.

Jim.

yup - that's what we've found out :) The wiring is a hotch potch so we're going to remove it.

not yet - I'll grab some next week when I'm over there next, probably next week on the way to the NEC :)

Hey guys. Had a look at this with my dad yesterday. It's the later type dizzy on this car so different from sleipnir and chewbacca. The crescent shaped plate inside. Is that supposed to be sprung, fixed or able to move freely?

Thanks,

Rich.

The baseplate is only supposed to move when it's pulled by the vacuum advance. If it's floating about all over the place then either the vac rod has broken or the pin on the points isn't located in the end of the arm.

or both possibly. That gives us something to go on thanks.

On fitting electronic ignition you have to remove the black lead to the dizzy and fit 2 new ones. Anybody have a good way to remove the rubber bung that goes through the dizzy housing without destroying it?

Thanks,

Rich

When the cars were new(ish) you could warm them up a bit, or remove them when the engine was hot, but now they're all getting on for 40 years old all the rubber has gone rock hard, so your guess is as good as mine... They're more like hard plastic now.

That's why i asked :) Doesnt have any pliancy at all. I guess if it wont move we'll just have to kill it :) If it doesn't work currently it's not like we're breaking it....
