Kickdown Cable adjustment?

Well, the filter's out, washed and drying, but I don't think it has been doing much filtering for some time judging by the crap that came out of it!

John.

Mine was the same, I cleaned mine because the gearbox started to whine and thankfully it was a clogged filter, once it was cleaned and refitted the whine was gone, but my word there was a lot if crud in it!

If there was lots of crap that came out when you washed it through it proves it was filtering, not that it wasn't. If it wasn't filtering there would be nothing there.

What I meant was, it had filtered, and was clogged with crud, therefore would not be filtering properly, if at all

It will still be filtering, just not allowing as much fluid through as it should, but if it was totally blocked you wouldn't be going anywhere.

That's good news then, cheers Harvey. Have a good Christmas, I keep checking if Santa's been but he hasn't yet! (but then I haven't been a good boy) I'm hoping for 5 litres of BW35 compliant trans fluid.

John.

Hi john. Worth negotiating at the local factors for trade price... I get 5 litres for 18 quid rather than 29...

Rich.

Hi Rich, My local factor charges me £25 for 5 litres, I already have 5 litres on the shelf, but need more. Fortunately Santa brought me £100 in gift tokens for my local factors. Most of my family know me very well, except those who gave me book tokens, which are as much use as the tits on a bull to someone who only reads old technical books (you know who you are Mother  ) I will negotiate with my factors No2 for discount, as the owner is fairly inflexible.

Cheers John.

New kickdown cable fitted, box all back together, I was concerned by the amount of sludge in the filter and pan. I did wonder that most of the friction material was in the fluid, anyway 7.5 litres of clean fluid and I appear to have a gearbox with 3 forward 1 reverse and a kick down. Throttle linkages were all set wrong as well.

Many thanks to Harvey for advice and parts.
Harvey, I found my magnets safe place, I had cleaned it and put back onto the bolt head it was fitted to  I was looking for a round one, it was a square one with wedged sides. Yours is now on the bottom of the pan as added insurance. (but by the time 2 magnets are full of swarf the box will be toast anyway  )

It only took me 2 months, I don't think I made my bonus time on this job!

No problem, it was a pleasure.

I'm glad you found a use for it, and if it's out of the way in there it can't do any harm.

2 months maybe, but it works. I've known people taking them on as paid jobs taking longer than that, and they're still no good when they're done with them...

Cheers Harvey, but my Rover "Repair Operations Times" book states: Down shift cable remove and refit, 1.35 hrs for an installed gearbox,+ 00.75 hrs adjustment. means 2.10 hrs total!
