A few years ago, my old woman said that there was no way she would let me put our littleun in my old mk2 Cooper, stating, "you need something bigger and more modern" .. she expected me to buy a people carrier, I bought a 3500S!
They are fine to put kids in, big solid, strong old buses (as long as the base unit is solid, I have heard of people buying cars and the bulkhead has dropped out  )
I dont understand this, "I would buy x or Y, but the wife would kill me" and blokes who sit indoors until they are 50 in fear of upsetting their wife by having a pint as she stays in with the kiddy.
Congratulations Gareth .... hopefully in 16 years time he will be pulling gearboxes out for you.
