Jeremy Clarkson

Thanks for all the comments from everyone. Maybe I'll write him and ask why no Rover P-6? For the record, I currently cruise a 1996 Harley Davidson 883 in the warmer months, and see no reason to be "skeered" of them scooter types!

I did see a P6 on Top gear once, when Hamster was doing a piece on the Rover V8 and the fact that they had stopped making them (Although you can still buy a new one if you want to).

He did say that the best ever car they put it in was the SD1 though

If it makes you feel better i was there with a tvr v8 owning friend who'd turned up for the shoot, and he had to stand on a milk crate to do that piece to camera (it was at gaydon...)

I have to say that I have been with Clarkson as a driver and he is surprisingly good. I am a Police Traffic officer and he came on one of our advanced training school courses with some traffic officers. Shouldnt really judge the mans driving on his TV antics as that is all entertainment for the millions that watch. On the course he drove he was incredibly safe and was very intuitive with excellent car control. I had my doubts about his driving off track but he is very smooth and very fast, he does have talent to back up his TV persona, he is also a nice man I have to say. Not what I expected at all so dont be too quick to give him a hard time. Though I am still only slightly jeleous that he earns considerably more money than I do.

Hello,
I can only echo all of your comments really. I think Jeremy Clarkson can be brilliant in one sentence, and then arrogant in the next. A sort of hero and ---e---e all in one.

As for Fifth Gear...I stopped watching it many years ago. I found the 'girl power' and 'boys power-slides' a tad irrelevant to my understanding of what an adult motoring program should consist of. I crave for the old non-theatrical style Top Gear to come back. I thought William Woolard and Chris Goffey superb!

i'm wondering why all the espensive car tests etc, i generally find them a bit dull to be fair and have more interest in the 'cheap car' road tasks
are modern everyday cars too boring to warrent testing? are they all much of a muchness? do we need exotica to make us watch car programmes?
i'm trying to find out about secondhand vans at the moment and there isn't much information about that i can find.
not sure asking Clarkson about the mpg on a vivaro would do much good although i'd like to see him tracktest one!

I now find Top Gear enjoyable since I treat it as a comedy show, sort of Last of the Summer Wine with cars. Clarkson just being a giant Compo and May as Clegg, not sure about Hammonds role, maybe Compos ferret?

Credit where it's due as you say but his drifting car control has taken years to get where he is now. His vids always used to pan away just as you saw the car go over balance point, so you knew the next scene would have been him facing the other way in a plume of smoke punching the wheel wondering what he needed to do do catch it in time. My son used to shout 'He's lost it again!' Maybe your tuition helped him.

He wasn't that nice to the walkers in the Isle of Man when erecting fences in their way a few years back

On the basis of being rude, talentless, obnoxious and generally offensive Clarkson has done well for himself

Also traits that made News of the World the giant it was...

Events of 2011 have made me so proud to be British
