i recently straightened it and refitted it as i couldnt source a new one,,looks much better

sorted out the horns not working-both were nackered after its period of inactivity,,replaced,,now i have sound--whooooo

put a 3500s steering wheel on it,,the other looked soo "grandad"- still thin but looks soo much more pleasing

still cant get power steering pump to stop leaking,or hissing on full lock, and still gotn a steering rod to swop,,
added badges to bumper, looks much less bland,as i changed my mind bout badge bars

clock still goes backwards sometimes!!

removed dark formica trim,got some off a 76 r reg,,much nicer
touched up some chips
made a set of boxpleats from bits off various cars

painted roof and side panels in matt brown ,matched to huntsman

more to come ,,watch this space

The power steering system was always quite noisy, it was mentioned in period road tests. Don't worry about the hissing, that's normal. The leaks are too  but should be fixable. If you're lucky it will be from the pipes and sealing washers. If you're not lucky, it will be from the bottom seal which is a pig of a job!

Is that the alloy spoked one? They do look good! I have one of those and put another steering wheel cover over the one that was already there to add to the thickness a bit :D

just found out my v8 auto was once a manual-
ha ha
god bless it...

most people do it the other way round

Surprising  The autoboxes are much wider than an original manual & hence a manual transmission tunnel is not suited to putting an auto in. :?

Apparently they do fit! The quoted reason for Rover enlarging the tunnel was not to physically fit the transmission, but to get sufficient air circulation around it to stop it overheating.

Chris

I've read that too Chris but I don't think it's entirely true. I've just waved a tape measure over a couple of cars and the auto trans is significantly wider than the manual trans tunnel. I suspect that Rover widened the tunnel to fit the trans and then widened it 'more' for additional cooling.
Brook seems to have deleted the previous pics of his car but I'm pretty sure it had an auto tunnel. Maybe it had been fitted with a manual 'box at some point and is now back to original?
Brook, who told you it used to be manual? Was it a former owner? The chassis number will confirm. 451 for auto, 481 for manual.
