HI, yes I know, yet another new member to bore you with yet another restoration project. I know you’ve seen it all before, but hey it’s new to me!
I’ve been looking for a hobby where I can get my son involved and prise him away from his computer and games consol (although that’s proving a lot harder than I thought). By watching too many car restoration programmes I got the notion that restoring an old classic was the answer (only time will tell)
Having spent many hours trying to decide what was the right car for me? I stumbled on your forum which soon made my mind up, “Rekindling” long forgotten memories of a 2000TC I owned back in the late 70’s, by now some of you will have already guessed what follows? Yes, I managed to set fire to it when patching a hole along the inner sill as I didn’t clean the fibres from the underlay off properly. Ok, I know I’m a sinner but at least I confessed. To make amends I am hoping to bring my chosen find back to life!
I expect many of you will have seen my rotting brute on eBay? As I was looking for a car to restore and not a rolling project I decided I would like to take on this sad old barn find, not having seen the car I took a gamble and put in what I thought was a fairly low bid £450 and much to my surprise I won, on seeing the pictures many will probably say I over paid?
Unfortunately the paperwork is not great as the original owner passed away many years ago, I do have a few old Mots’ and the V5, the tax disc suggests it was last on the road in 1986 and looking at the state of it I can well believe it. Just about every panel is rotten, all the rubbers have perished, but at least he had a family of mice which loved him, needless to say the seats and carpets are finished as well. I was told that there was no attempt to start the engine, which proved to be un-true as when I opened the bonnet there was a hose with a funnel crudely attached to the carburettor, so all is not well.
Hopefully, if I have done it correctly there will be some photos attached for your amusement; I will post more as I progress with taking his clothes off.
I am not sure if I continue adding details of my project here or open up a new topic?
