Hi there
I have just joined the Rover Club as I have been offered a P6 2200. I am hoping to view the car tomorrow. It is a 1973 model, lunar grey colour, owned by a 104 year old man and it has not been driven for the last 4 years - just kept in his garage. He was the 2nd owner (after 6 months) and it has covered 97K miles.
I would love to buy this and restore but relly don't want a mega prject to undertake so am asking for advice as to the key things to look for when I visit tomorrow. I am under no pressure to say yes or no tomorrow but owuld ideally like to know if it's a definite no-no!.
So, I would appreciate anythings anyone can recommend in terms of where to look for rust - I am presuming this is likely to be the main issue.
Thanks in advance and maybe I'll be a proud P6 owner soon.
thanks
Chris

Never a simple answer as all cars need to be judged on their own merits.

Some cars do suffer from the common old faults but if it has been garaged then you will may be in luck.

Check the sills especially around the rear suspension. the rear seat bases lift out so get them out and look at the floor. this is a notorious place for rot. Most other things are the same as other cars, brakes, clutch, carbs.

If you say what area you live in there is bound to be an expert somewhere nearby who can help.

Thanks for that. I am in Weybridge in Surrey so yes, you're probably right, there will be an expert P6 man somewhere around here I'm sure. I'll take a first look tomorrow and get a first impression.
Cheers

When I said expert I was thinking one of the forum lads.

Good luck with the car, first impressions count for a lot so if you like the colour and interior then you may just fall in love. Any P6 is nice to drive so you wont be disappointed.

Hi Chris
I am what passes for a P6 expert, and I live in Godalming.

IF this is the car which has been touted on eBay from West Horsley it's a definite avoid, I've heard several bad reports (that was a Lunar Grey 2000TC)

If you'd like me to come out to look at a car with you please shout!

Cheers
