Hi all,

Just stumbled across this site looking for info for my newly acquired 85 SD1.
Looking forward to getting her on the road for Summer.

Many other members on here from NZ?

Regards
Mike

Im one of many kiwi on here.
Im out in the hills between Bethells and Muriwai.
Humans that own a rover don't usually stop at one. Theres a good lot on here also have an SD1 in their portfolio .
I have a strong willed wife and stopped at the one P6.
Welcome aboard
Gerald

Hi Michaelme. Wellcome to the forum from Grey Rover (P6) who lives in Avondale. This has to be a wonderful and informative Forum. Is your SD1 a V 8 or a SIX?
John.

Welcome aboard! Did they ever sell the 4-cylinder SD1 in New Zealand or was that particular travesty reserved just for us?

Don't know if they were officially sold here but I've seen a couple. They built the V8s here and possibly the 2600 too. There are quite a few Vitesses around and even a few twin plenums and I saw a Diesel one once and a couple of V8S models and VdP efi. Don't think I've ever seen a 2300 I the flesh though.

I'd thought the woefully underpowered SD1 2000 was a special for our company car tax laws and it wasn't forced upon the rest of the world. The six cylinder ones were supposed to be pretty good though I'm told.

I got to ride in one of these 4 pot Sd1's whilst in India .
It was a Taxi - bloody Norah!! The old 60's Ambassador was better , and that started life as a Morris Oxford > a gift from Britain
Talk about 1st world technology dumped on 5th world ignorance .
Don't worry michaelme , nothing like your NZ SD1

Weren't the Indian ones built in the Chennai factory and had a different 4-pot lump to the UK cars? Called a 'Standard' too if memory serves.

The 2000 was sold new in NZ, but it was a special order.

We had a very nice condition one a few years ago in Christchurch.

The Indian version had a standard vanguard engine.

I had the O-series version. Wasn't as bad as you might think. The main issue was the gearing was too tall overall. Oh and PAS would have been nice.

Hi John,

Great! Another fellow Westie :) I'm in Sunnyvale.
Mine is a V8, my Dad and I have been working on it for a while.
It was actually in Avondale the last time it was driving.
I was collecting it from the panelbeater on Patiki Road, got as far as the end of Rosebank Rd before I noticed the massive fuel leak!
Luckily pulled over and got a tow before anything erupted.
Never a dull moment in a Rover eh?

Looking at getting the SD1 in top shape before the end of December so my fiancée and I can use it as our wedding car.
Shouldn't be too far off now
