I made a deal that if he could take it out without damage, I was interested in buying it, but neither of us realized that it is one big roof shaped piece and not easily sent by post. Today I arranged a visit, which was a 2 hour drive to Oxford to meet the man called Graydon. He had already dismantled most of the car and had the headlining out and awaiting my inspection. Turns out Graydon is a real interesting guy with a history of banger racing and a love for classic cars. He has a mini warehouse full of old motors.
He has a couple of P6's , one of which is his daily runner. Its tax exempt and has an mot but you wouldn't believe it to look at it. He got it without a petrol tank and he has fitted his own..... have a look, amazing! It has a mixture of internal seats as some were missing and the top part of the dashboard is also missing. And you wont believe it but Graydon has fitted a push button starter as the ignition barrel fell out and he demonstrated it and it started first time. He drives it to work and when parked next to his workmates flashy sports car, the rover 2000 TC draws all the attention. He even found people sitting in it once as the doors don't lock!! Love It.

Any way, back to the headlining. Graydon took it out through the back window which he had already removed. Has anyone fitted the headlining and what is the best way to replace it. Will I have to remove the back window?

Thanks in advance

You can fit it by feeding it carefully through the passenger side front door. Remove the front seats first.

Be careful as they do rip easily, and don't forget to make sure the handbrake is off, as this can damage it.

Take it slowly and you will be ok without having to remove the rear screen

Best of luck with it

Richard

Has that broken the swivel pillar in half?

Thanks Richard, your method definitely sounds better.

Harveyp6, I don't know what that is but it probably is... This rover was towing another rover p6 when the driver crashed into some traffic lights. The crash caused a kink on the roof and opposite wing, may have been repairable by a determined restorer, but Graydon decided to break it for spares... he will be keeping the petrol tank
