The other MOT fail point on Hazel was very minor in terms of repair work required, although I suppose the issue itself could be serious.
I've been putting up with a driver's door push button that's been sticky for a number of years, gradually getting to the point that I sometimes had to use the passenger door
. This of course could lead to difficulties in someone getting occupants out in a crash situation, so I was being a bit daft really.
I was thinking I'd have to strip the door to get everything cleaned & re-greased to free it off. However, I had a look a few days ago & removed the push button assembly, which is clearly where the problem was (here it is in its stuck position):
A quick disassembly, thorough clean up & re-grease cured it immediately. The rest of the mechanism was fine, but I did lubricate it too.
I thought this was interesting for us Rover geeks - a rubber gasket/ring so that the button springs back softly:
