Gearlever rattle when switching off engine

Hi all when I turn off my engine I can hear a rattle thought it was a exhaust clamp, on investigation if I hold onto the gearlever it doesn't rattle anyone heard of this before? Gearbox had been removed and replaced before I bought the car. Thanks dion.

Bushes on selector arm or rubber knob at end of gear lever , worn or missing.

possibly just a lack of grease on the selector components, particularly the little ball joint at the bottom of the gear stick. The grease damps the rattle...
