I have a head rest for the front seat, but i have the type of seat with no headrest mounting. Is it possible to modify the seat, or is it just not worth the bother and get another seat ?

It is possible, I have seen head rests on rear seats so they must have been modified.

As you will probably have to get a seat with the bits you need anyway, you might as well get a good seat with the fixings already in.

If you can get a bad one, cheap, it would be worth modifying.

Headrests on rear seats, sit on the rear shelf and fit over the seat top, no mod is req.
It is poss to mod a S1 front seat but if you mess up cutting the slot in the top of the seat for the hole, its knackered it!
Its far better, and a lot less hassle to find some good early S2 seats in the same colour and style " flat pleat " with the headrest slot already in them!
Seats are out there quite cheap if you search!
I got a complete low miles seat set in bronze flat pleat with door cards and other trim for £80.
And recently I got another set of really nice bronze ones that I intend to fully restore for £40!!

I'm told that to modify a Series 1 seat to headrest spec you need to use the headrest tube from the earlier type Series 2 seat with the chrome finisher on the top & not the later type with the big screw through the back, I've never checked it out to see what the difference is but I was recently asked if I had any of those early Series 2 seats for that very reason.

I've found out why, it's because the later type is welded in & the early type is screwed in, can't see that being a problem though
