front grill

hello again
has someone brought back their plastic grill on their series 2 to new condition?
Mine is in reasonably good condition but has lost its lustre and would be keen to know how to bring its shiny blackness back, or is it supposed to be a matte finish?
any advice please
thanks karl

If the plastic has gone grey over time one thing that will return the original appearance is (not winding you up I promise!) smooth peanut butter!

Spread it over the surface of the plastic, leave it on for a few hours then wash off. The peanut oil soaks into the plastic returning the original cookout and also returning some of the flexibility.

That's what I use. Lot cheaper than back to black sprays!

I've got a spare grill also that's turned grey and was thinking of chucking it out.
Will give it ago with the peanut butter ,
Hope my Mrs don't notice it missing from the cupboard!

It made for an interesting conversation at our house for sure! I tried it first on my wife's Saab convertible. She came home to me smearing it onto the door rubbing strakes.

I used some rubbing compound on mine, then followed up with T Cut. Took a while but they came up very well, and looked like new.

lol thats great thanks sdibbers ill give it a go
good to hear you have a saab in the family
ive got a 01 95 aero
We've got three! The '95 Saab 900 turbo convertible (Up for sale at the moment) an 08 93 Convertible and an 08 93 Saloon with the high pressure turbo. Whenever I buy a car the manufacturer seems to go belly up. Happened with both Saab and Rover. Oh well.

Good luck with the grille.

haha car companies ay?
i almost had a 900 for a box of beer, but ended up him wanting a mini tankers worth for it.
i love mine, unreal jet plane speed lol

I had a grill and headlight panels that where a little past a polish. I wet and dry sanded them with a fine grade, sprayed them with a little thinners to make the surface tacky and sprayed them with satin black auto paint. The hardest part is painting in the silver lines (left mine all black for now).
Like the peanut butter tip, I think it would be good also on soft items like the dash top, will be trying that next.
Funny about the comments on Saabs and Rovers, me and the wife have both had many of each in the past. The last 93 convertible I loved and had for eight years till it fell apart at 198k miles. I think there is something about the quality individual engineering and style of the older Rovers and older Saabs that has a crossover following?

I think you might be right there, then again i think european cars seem to have a bit "extra" in design and styling and have always liked them more than your average toyota ford or holden.
I have had a few zephyrs years ago and enjoyed the nostalgic drive.

Before cannibalizing your food stocks, try POLYTROL from Owatrol. Will try this now also for my SU carbs, which came back from blasting. It´s a cheaper alternative to the "magic" US product RPM, but originally for plastic refreshing.
