Yesterday while getting my 1967 just on the road there was a fire under the hood. I disconnected the battery and then saw that some of the wiring loom had melted. So a new loom or I have parts cars of 1969 vintage. Are the looms the same? Larry

The Rover 2000/2200 workshop manual has different wiring diagrams for the 1968/1969 cars as compared to the earlier ones so there are some differences in the loom from your '67.

Thanks for the input. I now know that the loom that Take from my parts 1969 TC. But if I remove it at least some of the wire will work? I am not doing the work but a very smart mechanic will do the work. Any more suggestions from the group would be very much appeciated. Thanks to all who have anwered. Larry in Idaho USA

To all thanks. Some more notes. This TC is LHD and the #41801533A. I have workshop manual#605028' Now as Vern pointed out the earlier diaggrams will net be in this manual. So I looked at US ebay and they have several manuals with the same #'s. Now are there different years that these were published? Some say printed in 1967. So what now?Larrr

The Rover 2000 and 2200 Repair Operations Manual part number AKM 3625 has the wiring diagrams for the various years and LHD and RHD models. A PDF of the manual is available through the Rover P6 club.

As I said over on rovernet, the biggest difference I think is the coil being on the other fender well. There are also minor differences in how the headlights work, as the 69 shouldn’t support the parking light position. The part in question is called the dash harness, and sadly it runs from the front left of the engine compartment back to the firewall, into the cabin and across the firewall, then back out into the engine compartment and down to the right hand corner. But other than having to take the speedo, glove boxes & centre console out it not terribly difficult to remove. I’d get the burned harness out as a practice run — doesn't matter if you skin a wire or two on that one.

Final though, depending on how badly it’s burned up it may be less work to repair the wires. But that requires quite a bit of electricl skill to do well, and of course it will always look repaired.

Yours
Vern

Generally mildly melted is ok as long as nothing moved. The binding of the wires in the harness keeps oxygen out and the plastic still holds the copper apart, even when gooey. It solidifes again when cool so aprt from sticking the wires together, there isn't much change in the harness part. issues tend to be with the attached pieces which are in open air and can burn. I'd recommend checking all the wiring first before redoing the whole harness as its a big and difficult job to get it in place after the car's contents has been fitted.

To all who responded, Thanks. I ordered a P6 off the web and was happy it was a new one with all the different electrical diagrams for the different models. It was the manual that is marked AKM 3625. More info than my old original one. Thanks again. Larry
