:D thanks for the kind coments guys :) Now I got to do a few jobs to get her up to scratch but apart from that it's bloody lovely, and even my wife to be loves it.....apart from the 'smell of old people'!! Air freshened required me thinks haha!

Really beginning to wonder whether customizing it is a good idea  I think I'll drive it for a while to get used to the old girl, and then make my decision.

I am so jealous, buckskin and Sundym and with the red a great combination!

That really does look gorgeous! I must say that I'd be tempted to try to keep it looking fairly standard, when it looks that good. I'd be very tempted to do some mechanical upgrades though, if I was interested in modifying.

Keep it as is at least for a while.

Also now you have one you will find them for sale or be offered them. It is the magnetic effect of owning a P6 :? I was offered 4 in one day a few years back! So enjoy this and see how you like it perhaps a P6 more suitable for customising will turn up.

That does look stunning I would be tempted by a nice set of wheels and pos a mod or two on the engine keeping it near to standard looking as poss, I'm sure after a few weeks you will know where your going to go with it.
Looks a good purchase :D

Wow! That looks really nice. Best bit is getting a non black interior! They are a little claustrophobic in black, and bucskin is my favourite.

Time to find out all its little foibles before you get to stuck into customisation - discover how big the bill is just to use it as is before generating more and bigger bills elsewhere!

Well done!

Chris

Thanks for all the lovely comments :) I'll tell you a bit more about her.

She's a 3500 auto with 's' trims, buckskin interior, black vinyl roof with webasto and it's original wind deflector. 3 owners from new, almost full history, old tax discs, passport to service and original handbook and rover service and distribution centers book; might not be much use now haha!!

The rear calipers and brakes are all new as are the fronts. No rot anywhere except under the coil and it's not much. The trunk, sorry boot area is spotless, not a speck of rot. She's done 83k from new and the box was recently reconditioned so is perfect. The engine is as sweet as a nut!

The only problem I have is that when the car is in motion the hot are from the heater becomes freezing cold sit and the gauge drops so today I'm investigating a possible stuck thermostat, or no thermostat! People do have a habit of taking them out.

So on the cards is a full repspray probably in its original monza red but the SD1 shade which is a lot redder, and a set of 15" P5B rostyles. I think that's it. I like it how it is, but I might buy another to customise :) I now have the P6 bug!

Can't wait to get on with it to be honest! I'll be asking a few questions about taking panels off and I hope it doesn't drive you all mad!

Marcus I sent you a reply via email yesterday, have you not had it? If not please let me know and I'll resend it.

When you get to the thermostat change - don't forget that the one you put in needs to have bleed hole at 12:00 looking from the front of the car. This is so that coolant can get past the thermostat when it is shut - they won't open otherwise and you won't get rid of air trapped in the top of the engine. Also, whilst the coolant is low, have the pipe off the front of the "carburettor tower" between the two carbs and make sure the passage behind in the inlet manifold is clear and flows water as you fill the system up again. These two issues are the source of most cooling problems with the V8. The car should run at spot on 85 degrees, so use either an 84 or 82 stat.

Thanks for the info. I will check everything as recommended. I'll let you know later.

You found yourself a real nice one there, well done. Possible too nice to chop around and modify too much, but few bits just to personalise it would look good. Maybe you could find a snotter to customise whilst you enjoy this one?
