couple of topics in one here...firstly any one recommend replacement filters for su carbs?...will filter socks suffice or are a couple of kn type filters better...any clearence issues??

second topic...my rover sounds lovely but only has a one box system..i could drive round multistorey carparks for ages!!...guess my back presure is all cocked up though!...really want twin pipes on so if i used a seperate pipe for each side and one silencer per side would i be increasing the back presure?..and would i lose the v8 burble and just sound like 2 four cylinder engines parked really close!! :( ...if the back presure was ok was just thinking of making the final exhaust piece (the bit with no silencer) go both sides of the car..i`m pretty handy with a welder!

Hello Jon,

If you remove the standard air cleaner box along with the cast aluminium elbows, and in their place fit K & N or similar free flowing filters, then you will need to change the carburettor needles to match the increase in air flow, otherwise your engine will run very lean, and you can cause serious damage, so do be aware.

The same applies if you change the exhaust system. You will need to change needles to suit. Running a duel system, with a single flow through muffler in each pipe (2") will sound the business, for I have had the pleasure of seeing and hearing a P6B with dual exhausts...music to the ears. :D If you go down this path....sound wise you won't be disappointed. Howver, and there is always one,....you will notice a drop in low down torque, so you will need to use more throttle for the same engine speed. The torque is not lost, just moved further up the rev range.

Another option, and one which many would advise is that you use a balance pipe between both exhausts, between the engine and gearbox would be a good place.

Is your Rover a manual?

so if i left pretty much well alone and just made the rear pipe a twin exit would i be ok? i have seen one system where the exhaust comes together as it passes through the hole in the rear cross member then exits at either side?..if i need to get the carbs rejetted then i guess it would be good to do the filter and exhaust at the same time...anyone know anywhere reputable in my area that does it...only place i know is d and b carbs in the cattle market,,,and they charged me £80 to sort out a carb on my nova 18 years ago...ouch! (and they did 40 miles in it on their lunchbreak!!!)

oh...and its a manual 4 speed...on the look out for an lt77!

Hello Jon,

The best option as you say is to change the exhaust and then have the air cleaners changed over with the carbs attended to at the same time. Although the standard air cleaner system might look a little unusual, it actually is very clever, in that the assists in improving engine torque,..specifically the elbows. Rover engineers did everything for a reason!!

You can buy mufflers which have a single inlet and dual outlets, so you can then run two pipes, one each side. It will sound just as good :D

any idea if i can get that exhaust pipe over here in the uk?...and if the rover air filter does a good job then i`l leave it alone!

There's a company called P.D. Gough who advertise in P6 News and they make stainless exhausts with discount to club members too. They're only in Watnall so you could pop in and see what they say.
