It would Nick!
Maybe it was a late donor V8 shell,"non tax exempt",and it was modified at point of resto to look S1??

If it is they've done the vertical bits on the front slam panel unique to S1 V8's and very early S2's.

The seller reckons that the 2000cc engine size with dvla is simply a mistake on their part. He has confirmed that is does read ESTATE on the v5.

I would have thought that Mark could shed some light on the history of this car, having once owned it?

I think quite a few were based on S1 V8s. There's a completely original tobacco leaf 'H' plate car near me sat in a field that I'm quite tempted by, very rotten though.

I imagine that the DVLA would have no problem changing the body type on a V5. I dare say they'd only require a visual check of the car at one of their offices (if you can find one that's still there) & an engineers report.

"original and correct" oh.... that would explain the blue engine rocker covers then

Took some pictures of the estate today. The car is complete in terms of anything that belongs to it is inside. It's in a right sorry state as you can see, I've got a lot of work to do if I decide to bring it home and rebuild it.

Aside from the missing wings, that could all just be surface rust? D post area looks surprisingly good.

Chris

The pictures are rather deceptive I'm afraid Chris. Repairs have already been carried out to the D posts and rear arches in the dim and distant past. A fairly nice job has been done but the repair pieces have gone thin, as has the rest of the car.

David.

I think that's bl**dy lovely although I'm a bit of a sucker for old wrecks! Is the guy willing to sell?

It is for sale. I don't think I'm going to do anything with it myself. Re-shelling would be probably the most logical thing to do, although if I was undertaking it, I would rather rebuild it so as to retain it's authenticity.
Cars like the subject of this thread worry me slightly, you're not exactly sure what it is you're looking at. At least with this one, it is original save for some of the panelwork.

An interesting estate.

I had an estate for a while several years ago - a series 1 3500 - that I planned to restore, but the entire back end of the car was just rotten.

I currently have the estate pod, roof, rear hatch, side glass - no hatch glass as that was badly cracked - the special fuel tank, back seat and a couple of other small bits. They're all in the shed or the garage. I also have the rear wing with the cutout. The wing and pod aren't in great condition, but the pod is saveable.

Is anyone interested in them if I decide to sell and concentrate on early 2000's instead?

Perhaps this confirms the point made in an earlier post - it's very expensive! The advert this time does not shown the full rear end with the peculiar boot lid. It's got a PAS crank pulley too but no PAS.

EMF 68J was once owned by me. I bought the rear half of a shell from a young lad in York. The car had been in a front end smash and the remains were lying in a garden, no engine, gearbox, axle. Just the pod, roof and rear seats. The tailgate glass was smashed. I fitted a Lada windscreen.
I grafted it onto a 2200tc shell, It was Zircon. I sold the vehicle to Mike Couldry who painted it white who in turn sold it to Mark Gray.

I have no idea of the history before me buying the bits and unfortunately a week later the lad was killed in a motorbike accident.

Something peculiar going on here. It's listed on dvla as having a 2000cc engine??? Thoughts???
I'm sure I took a picture of 'this' car 20 years ago in a local car park - & it seemed odd then as IIRC it was badged as a 2200! :?

You did and I was with it! Was talking to you at Murton last week.

Unfortunately I didn't make the connection at the time. You were the 'Rountree No.3' owner/driver, I recall.
