This won't be to everyone's taste I know. But was finishing a wee repair on a Fiat 500, and mind wandered to how similar the paint colour was to my Rovers seats. I was going to tidy up the hub caps on the Rover as the black bits were getting very tatty and chipped. And it was raining outside anyway. I think I like this. I think it will work with Mexico brown. Think being the word for now, easy to black over if mind changes.
Guess I better finish the Fiat now........

Hi Mick,
I'm late to this thread but saw your work and I think it would suit the white (~ off-white) of the rest of our car.
What did you use to create the circular masking ?
P

Hi, I just used masking tape and 'rounded the angles' as best could with my thumbnail, accepting over spray, and then cleaning over spray off with very fine wire wool. There's probably a better way, but this worked well enough.

That's an excellent result - so it must have been right.
I'll put it on the list after I've solved my 'colour matching problem'.
Thanks

looks good to me, and was probably on a factory prototype that we haven't seen yet.
What year FIAT 500?

The Fiat is a modern, 2013, but has been a cracking car. Never breaks down, only stuff had to do has been a little paint touch up and consumables such as brakes, along with yearly service. Has been a real surprise for us. I'll put a sideways picture up when I'm home at weekend or next week

Found this in phone. Same colour as seats......I plan eventually to have a beige vinyl roof and side panels, but that's some way off due to parts finances being spent on rear brakes at the moment. So the hub caps are a more economic first steps to achieving '40 shades of brown'

Hmmmm, plans for the Full Monty! Roof, Qtr Panels, wheel hubs and upholstery.
Could work well. We may avoid going all the way.
Can I suggest you avoid the use of 'beige'. This might be me being a saddo, but the colour description conjures images of interior walls and ceilings, curtains and tea cozy covers.
How about Bisque, Oatmeal or Latte . . . or even Buff !

There I was thinking you had painted the wheel trim the same colour as the car body.
I like what you have done with matching the upholstery and the wheel trim.

Just make sure you protect the valve stems from being severed by rotating hubcaps. Happened to me at 100kph but car responded superbly. I believe it is why many Brit police cars were hubcap free zones.

Those hub caps really bind solid to wheels Mike, no chance they will rotate, they are pretty hard to get off and on. I sprayed the wheels black, was very pleased, then put the caps back on, completely undoing my work. Ho him, can't see it, better tight fit given what happened to you.

The hubcaps are hard to get off because the teeth are on an angle from being put on and so they tend to dig in harder. They rotate because of inertia under hard braking, which the police tend to do in a pursuit. I used to run without hubcaps because I had divers boots on when I was younger and found they rotated.

Never had my hubcaps move in any direction. Even take some prizing to get off and sound quite tortured when doing so. Another example of "R"over engineered.

Yank police cars all have steel wheels without hubcaps for the reason mentioned above. I can't remember from my distant past about the Met Cars, but trust @harveyp6 in all things car related!
