Distributor swap for electronic ignition.

I might have to go chat to my uncle, if I can catch him on a good day, he'll explain whats the case, if he's on a bad day, he'll tell me to burn the car to the ground.

From memory, he converted the distributor to electronic ignition but it burn out not long after.

When I move house I might pull the distributor out and get a better look at it.

It's a pity that all of this has come out after my grandfather has passed away. D'oh!

and yes, 5 hours! the drivers side was near impossible to get out, the passenger side, I can't even see how that one is going to come out!

I assume you undid the top nut on the rubber mount, undid the bottom one, and while the engine was lifted up, wiggled the mount out of the bracket?

I replaced the original 1974 engine mounts in 1994, so fair while ago. I know I removed the nuts on the underside of the mount, and from memory while the engine was raised removed the top nuts, withdrew the mounts and fitted the new ones. A friend and fellow Rover owner was helping and we did both in the day. A good selection of spanners helps as one will fit where another won't.

Harvey, how do you / did you normally go about replacing the engine mounts?

Thanks,
Ron.

Ah, I thought as much.

See I took most of the shroud off around the top of the radiator, but couldn't get the rest off, so I undid the four bolts holding the shroud on, jacked the engine up until the oil filter was hitting the shroud, then undid the two bolts on the bracket that the mount bolts to on the engine side, then pulled out the bracket with the mount still attached.

On the passenger side I think I'll just have to remove everything. Such a PITA.

In other news, the thermo fan stopped working on my kawasaki this morning so I may have cooked the engine. I'm going to try and limp it to my uncle's workshop this evening, if I remember I might ask him about the distributor as well.
