I am looking at the D post area and wondering what to do. shall i buy a new one from JRW or is it worth trying to fabricate and fettle a repair? Bearing in mind i will also have to repair the seal retaining channel Also i see JRW no longer do a "short D post" so i have to buy a full D post and D post bottom piece, at well over £100 when VAT is added in so i am looking to save wherever i can, as I am but a poor working class type. :)

Here are two pics for you to see what I have.

That's a big job you have there Zardoz - how good are you at welding?

Fortunately im fine at welding, actually whilst no means underestimating it, im looking forward to it. just wish id started earlier in the year :) Those are the worst bits really, the floorpan is pretty much solid, the suspension mounting points appear to be fine. The rear wheel arches need doing but that will be no problem (yes i know. Famous last words :)

) Anyway my question still stands, is this a repair or replacement? Would it be easier to replace it and leave the repairs for the bits with less compound curves in them :)

Well, my opinion and that's all it can be, would be to get a new D Post 8)

I would make my own flat panels to rebuild the box section sill, then fit the new D Post.

Hi Zardoz
if you buy a JRW full D-post you wont need D-post bottoms, you get the whole panel from the seam at the top all the way down to where it joins the inner sill underneath the jacking tube & looking at the state of yours I would just bite the bullet,I did & if you just drill out all the spotwelds it comes off easily then simply drill all the way round the new panel & weld through the holes. The unfortunate thing is he no longer does an inner panel so it is a case of repairing it the best way you can. I've taken loads of photos of mine I'll get my films developed this week & get them onto disc so I can post them on here for you.
