Crank pulley removal

Hi,

I hope this is a silly question with an easy answer, but Ive got my V8 on the floor with its BW35 attached and Im trying to get the timing cover off but am stuck on the crank pulley.
Ive not worked on autos before, the book says to hold the crank by putting a screwdriver through the access panel on the bell housing. Does that mean the starter motor hole, as Ive not removed that and the other hole has no moving parts behind it!\

Thanks

Matt

You can do it through the starter motor hole, or remove the halfmoon plate and do it through there. You could also try putting a socket and "T" bar on the pulley bolt and hitting the end of the "T" bar with a hammer, most of the time they're not that tight.

Thanks - I thought it might mean take the starter off, but really didnt want the extra bolts and hassle, and couldn't see a half moon plate, just a small opening on the side with no cover! Ill try whacking it and when that fails go for the starter

That would be a wood for the trees situation - I was looking for for an access panel in that plate! I was expecting an opening the size of a beer mat

Do you know anyone with an air powered rattle gun? That makes the job very easy indeed :)
