classic car rescue 2014

Right then I will be the first to post up about the new series.

I like the P6 used to go fetch parts and I liked the Porsche 928 that they had on the show.

However was it just me or was anyone else gobsmacked when they whacked the life out of the brake caliper to get it of before throwing it on the floor. You can see the scrapes and scratches left when they were refitted with new pads and discs. Is it just me that thinks that was dangerous?

I know that the show is entertainment and maybe the boss will get furious or maybe sack all the mechanics again. Chance to win the car in the competition, no thanks.

damn it, i needed a laugh, downloading now, it'll make my own restoration quality look amazing and fill me with confidence to go OTT with the gas axe!

I decided to have a watch, as I had nothing better to do with an hour. Rather a nice P6 that they were out and about in, at the start.

The 928 looked very poorly done. As you say, the whacking of a caliper like that is not clever at all. The paint finish on the car looked dreadful, and the colour mismatch was very noticeable between front bumper, and the rest of the car. I disliked the wheels that they changed, without mentioning the change too.
Terrible work on what's one of the few Porsches I'd consider owning.

I totally agree with the treatment of the brake caliper- very bad! I love the fact (forgetting the possible implications of smashing the living daylights out of it for a mo) that they made no attempt to even sort out the fubared paintwork, they sure looked amazing afterwards!

Problem with shows like this is that it holds these people up as some kind of "loveable rogue" role models, when what they doing is mostly half-arsed and sometimes dodgy!

I seen some of the last series and thought someone must have made improvements for the new series............wrong.
I hope they don't "restore" a P6. The show is sponsored by Adrian Flux, nice to see where my hard earned money is being spent.

I don't own a TV and can't comment but I do know that the professionals find these programs irritating - everything done and dusted within the hour? I don't think so. Whether you are a DIY expert or you pay someone to do it, it doesn't work like that.

These shows also attract dreamers and time wasters to the yard.

Absolute total FFing crap,dross!
How the Fek can any TV channel let alone insurance company justify making this kind of crap!
Most of the words I want to use to describe this programme are not printable, let alone polite to say in public!
What kind of image does it put across to the general public about the classic car fraternity?
There are many gullible souls out there who totally believe its real life, and that anything put on TV portrays real life!!
Believe thats how its done,so why dont we have a go at fixing up a wreck and selling it!

I note that on this series there is a disclaimer at the beginning saying that some of the sequences have been engineered for dramatic effect or such like.

Also, if we're being picky, the P6 has illegal silver-on-black reg plates (it's an 'M' reg).

Just a suggestion.
Copy your Emails, with accompanying note of explanation, to Adrian Flux PR dept.
Mind you, they may subscribe to the notion that 'any publicity is good publicity' - they are PR people after all!

John

those two are so irritating, Mario slightly less than Bernie.

there is absolutely no requirement for anyone to shout GO ON MY SON! at the top of his lungs repeatedly... anyone who does that should be executed in a painful way (perhaps in the same way he violated that brake caliper...)

Dont think much of the overall quality of their work either.

Yes, not the most ideal image to send out to every home about "cowboys" running around in these old bangers risking the lives of other motorists

*Surely not! You mean that 'they' can use TV as some sort of tool for spreading propaganda to the masses

Just watched it - total scripted b*llsh*t from start to finish, but seeing the P6 was nice - I recognise the reg' number as it was very close to my old 2000TC, I'm sure it was for sale on carandclassic.com sometime last year.

Do you think he'd get as effective a handbrake as your good self?

I'd be very surprised.....
