Chrome door lock covers

The chrome door lock covers on the front doors which rotate out of the way to reveal the key lock are very loose on my car they rattle about. What is it that should keep them tight and flush with the main body of the lock. Any one know a fix

There is a spring inside them to keep them shut. I took my driver side apart and found the spring was dislodged and was an easy fix, I guess I was lucky.

There are two key components to them. The spring as per above which keeps them shut (or open if put in backward) and a small tag/cheese on the underside of the cover which moves in a slot in the body to stop travel in both directions. That is it keeps it in the shut position and stops in going past the keyway till the spring runs out of energy. The springs can break or just come out. The tags can break or wear off which causes the aforementioned overun.

You cannot get parts. I have repaired a couple by scrounging small springs and epoxying a little brass pin to replace the sheared off pin, but as I recall it was a pain in the ass.

That's always the case isnt it, the smallet jobs are always the most difficult. When I next have to door apart probably when I look at making my own replacement door cards I will get them sorted. Thanls for all your help

I think if you get hold of a clothes peg you could use the spring.

You get very small ones from arts and crafts shops that arent as strong but probably better.
