Cheap compressor kit

Reviews on the website suggest its not up to the job! Will do some more investigating!

No chance a cheap compressor will be upto the job of spraying, you need a fairly large tank to ensure constant spraying pressure for prolonged periods, a small tank will not be able to provide that

The write his on the aldi and lidl one seem much better than this one. The reviews suggest it doesn't even live up to its description...

Hi, the trouble with reviews is they are subjective. What were the reviewers
expectations? One wants to run an air sander which are notoriously air hungry.

If you want it to blow tyres up, run an air wrench which are usually used
in short bursts or to spray repairs or maybe one panel at a time then it is
fine. If you require more, then that is going to need more investment.
So on the whole that is not a bad package.

good point, expectations at that price for myself would simply be that it could blow tyres up and operate a blow gun, its probably not too bad for a small compact unit, exactly what ill be looking for as im strapped for space and cash!

Just had a look, the specs seem ok for a smaller compressor and it "should" be able to run the tools, if for limitted period, but the review suggest it doesn't actually do what it claims, which would prevent me buying on.

2hp should be enough for basic tasks, including spraying (with a gun that doesn't require too much cfm), a bigger receiver will allow a lower power compressor to run higher requirement tools for short bursts.

"Free air displacement" and real world cfm are two different things though, a bit like flywheel hp and hp at the wheels. I can't remember precisely but you usually get about 2/3 of the free air displacement.

I never find Screwfix are the cheapest anyway, usually find a better deal elsewhere.

After a quick search around the net it seems Aldi and lidl ones normally get offered in april so i'll wait till then unless something else crops up!

Pneumatic tools are air guzzlers, you will need a minimum of 100 liters a minute just to drive a small drill effectively, sanders will need more. Try to get as big a tank as you can and you will be OK to sand stuff. When the tank is empty you can have a break to clean the dust off you and have a cuppa while it recharges.
Get the small compressor and a separate tank of storage if needs be.

My thinking is that it's better to have an Aldi compressor than none at all !
Are they any worse than Machine Mart's cheaper models - I have got one of those - 25litre 1.25 hp dating back to 1984 and I've sprayed wings with it

for me it'd be for spray inside the sills and rustproof the car... appearance isnt that important! flashing the bottoms of the wings to keep them looking neat maybe at most!

I have now read the Screwfix compressor reviews and it's a bit naughty if they are advertising it with a bigger displacement than the manufacturers claim

My first compressor didn't even have a receiver, it ran all the time and you had to use a special constant-blead spray gun (air flowed through it all the time, you pulled the trigger to allow the paint out). I actually did a fair bit of spraying with this simple kit, it was fine for touch ups and the odd panel.

As Dave says, better a basic compressor than none at all !

Hi, having just looked idly round their site they are selling an identical machine
with a different name on it for 250 quid and a couple of others for various prices
and all without the tool kit. You pays your money and takes your choice!

I have a Foulis book on bodywork which shows a foot pump connected to a a small paint gun, I don't think it must have caught on as I have never seen one, but I suspect if you found a guy in the 1950's with a massive right thigh he might be the man who bought one!
Back to Compressors, I bought an Aldi 2.5hp 25 litre tank one for £50 in my local Aldi sale about 2yrs ago, very good piece of kit for general hobby use, tyres, blow gun etc. Never sprayed with it, but it did run my air saw, but only used for short burst cutting. It does what I need cheaply. It appears identical to the Wolf ones sold in the Sunday papers and magazines.

There was once an attachment you fitted instead of one spark plug , started the engine , and the piston going up and down produced compressed air . Would be a bit oily for spraying though !

Schrader tyre inflators, I have a couple somewhere in the workshop, but at the moment it would be easier to aquire a unicorn fur hat than find them!
