Breaking for spares

No telling whats under the skin of a P6 but on the face of it I'd agree. I've had 'discussions' before about breaking good cars for spares. The listings been ended early on this one though so maybe he sold it complete.

This is what he had to say." Ebay are moaning about me attempting to sell items outside ebay, so we ended the listing early before they did so the car will be stripped down in a few weeks and every single part will be listed on ebay, 12 items per evening, starting from the back. The car is near MINT condition and it's a shame to break it up, but in doing it will keep other P6s on he road" So what do you say about that? is this guy real?
Julian.

In the past I've broken lots of P6's, and although there are plenty of parts that do sell, they tend to be the bits that are u/s on most cars anyway, so you're lucky if you get good ones to sell, and you always end up with the same bits that never (or rarely) sell. As examples, everyone wants door dropglass weatherstrips, but they're shot on most cars, and rarely do people want or need interior handles or rear suspension toplinks etc, so you end up with those left over every time.

Some people on ebay seem to value parts, way too high.

I see there is a S2 grill on there at £47.00 inc. postage.

I will be surprised if anyone buys that especially as one of the fixing lugs is missing.

Saying that though, I just bought a pair of black ETs for £55.00 :?

I couldn't help it

I just asked him about the car,and its condition!
He said=
"Hi, it needs a lot of welding to the floor, so it has to be broken for spare, it would cost loads and loads to be welded, basicly a new floor would do the job. no where else is rusty, its all gone to the floor, worst i have ever seen. regards"

Like a lot of P6's they can look mint outside and excellent trim wise but structurally can be totally shot away!
I had a nice solid 2000tc I saved from the scrappie, with fully repaired base unit, I couldnt sell it as a whole, loads asking me for parts,so after 4 months of trying to sell it at a silly cheap price,I have to admit I broke it! Nobody even wanted the repaired base unit??
The eng/box went to the USA,nicely refurbed seats to a local chap, the excellent body panels are now my spares!!
On the whole,a terminally rusty car is worth more being broken than as a resto!
Thay all have to die sooner or later,Lets just be gratefull its going to help others rather than all go in the crusher!!
Like a 1977 25k miles one owner SD1V8 I just missed saving!! :x
Owner died, the wife wanted it gone quick!

Black ET's for £55 doesn't sound too bad. A broken grille for all but £50? Two hopes there. No hope & Bob Hope. I wouldn't pay that for a good one. As Harvey says, some bits are commonplace & cheap.

HANG ON CHAPS.
Read the description carefully.

It's not for the car, the listing is only for the wheel nuts. You read the text but your brain is left to interprete things differently. You may have all seen and understood the listing but nobody put in this thread that it's only for the wheel nuts. If i've missed that and you can see that it's not the car for breaking then i apologise.

"Rover P6 - 3500s V8 - Wheel Nuts - Breaking For Spares

This Auction Is For A Set of 20 Wheel Nuts From an Almond 1976 Rover P6 V8 3500s That We Are Breaking For Spares

All 20 Nuts Are In Good Clean Condition."

Where does it state that the wheel nuts come from the car in the picture? It says that the wheel nuts come from AN almond P6 not necessarily the one in the photograph. Even if the advert was for the car where does it state that the Almond car in the picture is the actual one that is being broken?

I'm not saying that the intent was to confuse or misrepresent but i feel the listing could be made clearer.

Hmm! Seems pretty clear to me. Obviously breakers list wheel nuts to disguise what is essentially an advert for spares. If someone bids, nuts are all they get.

I must admit I thought it was quite good, but haven't said anything until they arrived, just in case.

They were on ebay as, "Rover P5P6 Front Head Rests with Retaining Brackets."

For some reason, probably because there was no space between 'P5' and 'P6', they did NOT appear when searching for P6 or P5. I only found them because they came up on a 'Rover head rest' search.

Will be fitting them later :D :D :D

There was another guy selling an almond 3500s for spares or repair!
I spotted it had a pair of brownish ET's in it,as he hadnt yet sold it,or had bids!
I made him an offer of £25 inc p/p for the pair,Which he accepted  :D :D
Suggested that as it was terminally rusty "it had a Fred Flintstone floor apparently!!
That he would probably be better off breaking it,and could get some good money for the S parts!!
Only thing wrong was one silver adjuster button missing, cleaned up lovely and turned out to be bronze to match my int,so I dont have to recolour them! :D
Ebay bargains can still be picked up if your seller doesnt know the value of stuff!!
