my other half had her door mirror beaten off recently .
its the all electric folding type and cost £35 for a new mirror and backing (yet to be painted)
still, better than £350 odd quid for a complete new peugeot unit.
until i told a mate ate cricket who has an xjr jag.
he had his door mirror completely beaten off and his local jag dealer quoted £800 to replace it.
i,m sorry but £800 for a door mirror!
hardly suprising jags depreciate like a stone
i like jags but i'd never buy one
i mean i really like jags, they,re a bargain!
but do i buy a door mirror or pay the mortgage?
or have a holiday?, or her indoors some jewellery
sorry, i am being silly now

Was talking to a guy today who had done a nut and bolt restoration of a mk1 cortina. He said when he bought the car it had fibreglass front wings on. And that he had to source a pair of good secondhand steel ones as the remanufactured ones are terrible and don't fit. I asked what they cost thinking maybe £200. He paid £2000 for the pair! Ford parts are stupidly expensive now.

A new old stock boxed pair of Mk1 Escort indicators have just sold for £720 on Ebay. I just paid £60 for some repro ones. £720!!!!!

I remember back in 1996 when my transmission was on the table for a rebuild. The original planatary gears etc were in need of replacement. The transmission fellow spoke to a chap from Borg Warner in Sydney. They had a NOS item on the shelf, but they wanted a ridiculous price for them, something like $1000, say 600 Pounds. Given that you could purchase superior Ford items for a fraction of the price, why would you pay for the BW items. I said to the transmission fellow, what happens when no one pays that extortionate (or an equally appropriate adjective) amount of money for them. He said, "they'll send them to Sims" (Sims is a scap metal business). I have heard of similar instances with other businesses. Jack the price sky high, if no one buys the items, scrap them when the time comes.

Ron.

Nobody ever said that running Jags was cheap. You might be able to pick some of the 90's models up for less than a grand, but anything goes wrong or you can't do the work on them yourself, and it will cost you a lot.

I've probably spend £5000 in the last 18 months on servicing my XF.. that said, it returns around 40MPG and puts out just under 300BHP. Not bad for a diesel that clears 1,000 miles a week.
