Best spark plug & leads for V8

What Sydneyrover said. I had a huge loss of power when revving over 3000 and when my foot was on the floor. It was fixed with a new distributor. The annoying thing is when measured the usual way all appeared well in both the vacuum and centrifugal advance. I'm guessing it would simply stick at some point in use.

The Pertronix unit is not so expensive http://pertronix.carshopinc.com/product ... 6/9LU-181A and http://pertronix.carshopinc.com/product ... 7419/45011.
though with the exchange rate it might cost landed about NZ$230.00 even with the poor exchange rate. Prices have only increased 4 dollars on each item since I purchased mid 2010, my landed cost was NZ$211.00.

I see they also do leads http://www.carshopinc.com/index.php/cPath/21_24_47

Thanks Graeme..wished I had seen your post sooner. I can't help myself and went ahead and ordered all the 3 products through your links...life's too short to ponder too much. But now what am I gonna do with the Powerspark package when it arrive as I sure will be using the Pertronix set.

I paid about $120.00 Aus for my pertronics, plus another $60 for a new new coil as they don't work properly on an electronic coil...At the time they were about $50 in the US online. I can't say there was much of a difference in performance, but no need to change points.

I agree with Quagmire et al. Especially if your low on cash Change the leads first with a new distributor cap, points and rotor button any new leads will work well enough for at least about 3000 kms, the Magnecor leads don't need to be replaced so they work out relatively cheap over time but you can save up for them by purchasing standard ones first.

Also before changing anything there is a little wire running between the moving advance plate and the distributor body. It is an earth lead and needs to be in good condition and not broken as it earths the points. test is to put a small screw driver under it and tug gently. Be prepared for it to break, you can make a replacement if need be using microphone wire from electronics shops. Its highly flexible, small and silicone sheathed. Be careful with the screws they like going south into the guts of the thing...

I actually own a Sun Distributer Tester if anyone in Aus wants to test their distributer I'm happy to fire it up.

I have to agree, leads are very important on a P6B, Good leads last a long time, my Silicone ones I put on in 1988 and still going perfectly. Prior to installing if you opened the bonnet at night it was like a fireworks show!
