ATF Top Up.

Greetings All,
While doing a routine check of the fluids I noticed that the auto fluid was a bit low. Off I went to see if I couild find some ATF-G as specified in previous threads. When asked the assistant looked at me in stunned silence, "never 'erd of it mate".

He then showed me this stuff, Penrite "ATF TOP UP". He said it is compatible with most specs and, when used as a top up and not as a replacement, is safe with most components and seals. When asked about the Dexron factor he seemed to think that it would be OK.

Hope these links work:

Your thoughts folks??

They have a few different names for atf-g... Comma call it AQF and i found that to be readily available!

Hello RT,

As you live in Australia and I assume that your transmission has been rebuilt in the last 20 years, then it would be almost a certainty that Dexron flud has been used. In the U.K with their transmissions this would present a problem, in Australia with the later spec materials available to us it presents no problem at all.

If your transmission is currently using Dexron, then I'd go for the second link that you posted. If on the other hand it is using a type F fluid, then go with the first link.

My transmission when rebuilt in 2009 would normally have had a Dexron fill, but I chose TQF as I wanted even firmer shifts than would otherwise have been the case, so go with the top up that complements your transmission's current fluid fill.

I got some Castrol TQF from the MG owners club.

Not knowing all the differences, and not really having the time to look into it I just got the one that is specified.

I also tried halfrauds who directed me to the oil shelf and were then surprised there wasn't any there  Apparently they used to supply it, but they don't know if they still do. That's handy

I have used that product in my Rover 2000 automatic. I would try to get hold of some Castrol TQF as my first preference though.
