Anti theft device

I have 2.
A daily quick secret flick switch for the ign & g/box inhibitor.
And for long term,ie the weekend or camping away a main + battery lead power cut off, that,? when I can remember where it is,is a sod to get to and operate, and then I forget how to get to it to turn it back on again!
If the owner, still cant suss it out then a thief aint gonna!

Of course this all assumes that you remember where you parked your car :?

Reminds me of an eldery neighbour of mine who once came back home to find that her car had been "stolen" from her driveway, She reported it to the police who quickly found the car outside the shop that the neigbour had just come back from. Curiously, the "thieves" had managed to lock the car with her dog in the boot (it was an estate) and some of her shopping in the car. To top it all, they had slipped the car keys back into her pocket. :D

I think that double-bluffing the thief would make sure your car doesn't move if he (OR SHE, I'm not sexist...) manages to get inside. I'm considering wiring in two isolator switches, so that if he/she finds one of them, he/she will think that the problem must lie elsewhere and stop looking for the other. Either that, or just wire in one, and leave a second 'dummy' one in an more obvious place to fool the swine/mare!

Pity there's no way to lock the driveshafts- that would be a dead cert to prevent towing. (Listen to me! Making out like I live in Beirut! It's a very nice little suburb I'll have you know!)

Not that you can stop them if they really want the car. When staying at my girlfriend's in London, I once saw a council operated truck come round and lift a BMW up by its wheels on straps, put it on the back of a lowloader and move it 25 yards down the street just so the neighbours could get a crane truck down the road to (and this is the best bit) hoist a pallet full of Italy's finest marble floor tiles over the roof of the house and into the back garden (it's that sort of an area...). The council then put the BMW back where it had been (in front of its owner's house!) and slapped their fee on the w'screen!! Madness!

Hi all,
I've got the usual on mine, battery isolator in the boot, hidden switch on the coil supply of one, but have learned from past experience that stopping a thief taking a car is one thing, stopping them trying is far more important. When I was in college I had serious problems with scumbags trying to 'borrow' my sierra (tried 3 times). I lived in a good area but unfortunately it was on a route out of the city centre to a dodgy part. I found a very cheap and effective way to stop them trying, and apply the same to my P6's if they are out and about:

When the other half gets fed up of minding the car the heavy duty chain wrapped around the steering wheel and seat base (with the padlock concealed under the seat so they can't see how good or bad it is!) does the job  .
Regards,
Dave

She could mind my car whenever she likes !
Best not to leave any valuables on display to avoid getting your windows smashed even if they can't get away with the car

dmcsweeney, what a security device you have their, me thinks it would be to expensive for me.....................................................................................
..............................................................................do they do the chain a bit thinner to save on cost :D

Hhhhmmm, she keeps mine safe, by never giving me time to take it out  Definately agree with not leaving anything in the car.

 Definately expensive (and I don't mean the chain!). Chain is a little OTT but it was all we had thrown in the yard. Should have been padlocked to something to stop me borrowing it  . If only my other security device could be switched off at times  .
Regards,
Dave

That does look like a very effective anti-theft device! :p Perhaps I could teach her the ways of the dark side and how to throw force lightning at any would-be thief! :p

And out of fashion the day after!

Surely a car alarm is cheaper to run though Dave?

some scumbag had a go at an old polo i had , he didnt break the steering lock but managed to rip the whole steering column out of the dashboard , i set up my fiesta diesel to try to get him, car battery and invertor in the boot, an old vhs recorder, a cctv cam worked into the dashboard and a baby intercom between the car and my bedroom , and guess what , yep he didnt go for it,i used to remove the wire to the fuel pump solenoid in the diesel, the rotor arm in my old p6, i got in my amazon one day and got as far as the main road and conked, they had cut the fuel line, they cut a neighbours fuel line not realising it was deisel and let a full tank of diesel all over newly laid tarmac , this is the kind of stuff junior scumbags were doing all the time up the valleys , thank god i moved somewhere where its not going on, and a loud dog is pretty good at stopping people messing with your stuff, good luck, rich

My brother in law had an excellent anti theft device in the late 70's early 80's, a Mastiff/Labrador cross. It was the fugliest most bad tempered dog which ever wet a lamp post, I know that it could be tempted out with a sausage, who wouldn't be? But that was not its main vehicle protective skill, it suffered from flatulence which rendered the car unusable for a good half hour after an attack. The damn dog was vile. It gassed you into submission, then depending on its mood, either ripped you to shreds or tried to have its wicked way with you. He used to park his car all over London with the dog in it and never had a problem, well except having to drive with the windows down all the time.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/mastiff.htm

just for general interest o looked up mastiffs, id heard that they were bred for fighting lions by the romans, i was by the river one day and a guy came along with a neapolitan mastiff, when it jumped in the river my dog a staff bull terrier took one look at him and jumped out, he was massive, there was a bull mastiff i saw as a guard dog he was also huge but someone poisoned him , the scariest dog i saw was an american pit bull terrier bitch who when she saw a male of the same breed went absolutely nuts!i was glad she was behind a cage, ill be keeping my border collie thanks, regards, rich
