Alloy Wheels again - Found some lovely ones

a seriously low P6B V8 sporting a shiny copper gold metallic paintjob and some contemporary rims & tyres.

How far is Australia then?
Just past Luton isn't it?
Can I get the transporter there in a week or so?....

:D

How do they get them so low? Here is a thought , could you replace the front/rear springs/shocks with a coil over type shock with an adjustable ride height? It looks possible on the rear, but where would you put them on the front? replace the spring with coil over shock or put the coil over shock on the original shock mounts and just leave the bump stops where the sping should be.
Actually I have just looked at a diagram of the front suspension, and it looks as if the front shocks work in the opposite direction to most coil over setups (ie extension rather than compression) is this the case?

I want a car that low to !

Lowering the back end looks easy. Lowering the front with that leverd spring looks a lot harder, I mean if you shortened the spring by an inch, how much would the front actually drop ?. I suspose you take a chance with the front and then lower the back to match, if your brave enough (I'm not)

Those cars look great (I prefer the Gold one), I bet they were both done by the same guy with the knowledge. I wonder if he is on e-mail ??? hmm............

I dropped plans to lower the 2000 after the speed bumps in my village (Aylesford) smacked the sump plug out of my last Alfa. I had to get a Land Rover to get past the Post Office!

I've decided its a sad fact of life that speed bumps damaged low cars, and I cannot get anywhere without driving over them. Although I love the looks of the lowered P6's, sumps and exhausts suffer too much, Ive grounded the Berkley twice this year (ie had to empty the car to raise it up enough to get off !), luckerly I was going very slow in car parks.

Kustom cars have air bag systems to raise and lower the car, maybe thats the answer to all those with the time and the enthusiasme !

Just To Re-kindle this thread AlasdairMacKenzie spotted some groovy period style alloys form Australia, I think I have found them HERE its an Australian firm that makes some rather cool period style alloys here is a pic:

Stag owners use these as they are almost identical to stag alloys (thats how I found them) anyway I have e-mailed them to ask about PCD/offset etc.

Also check out the industrial alloy wheels they make, I think they are great, they have that custom built 1960's cooper look you could probably get those to fit as well!

I thought Triumph hubs were 4 bolt pattern?
I'd like the look of those on a P6, and miles cheaper than the Jensen route. However I bet it would dig up old wounds with old Triumph workers :)

Hi Paprika,
Yes I believe the stag has four studs, but the Aussie has five! will let you know what they say when they get back to me
Cheers
Al
P.S. Have you noticed that the rostyle style hubcaps from a stag have a fake five stud pattern

Hi Al,

Do you know what the offset is on original P6 wheels? I do not have original wheels on mine, so I cannot rely on measuring their offset.

I like the Challenger wheels and I have also asked for sizes and prices.

Regards,

John Larkin.

Hi John,

Just measured an original 14" v8 steel wheel conviniently sitting in the corner of my kitchen! Offset is 5" from hub mating face to edge if rim (back of wheel)

A P5 Rostyle is 4 3/8"

You couldn't do me a quick favour in return and take a look at the arrangement of your windscreen rubber and stainless trim. I'm trying to work out if I've got everything in the right place so I can refit the trim and front deck panel. (See thread under suspension)

Hi Bennet,

Thanks for the information about wheel offset.

What exactly do you need to know about the windscreen rubber and trim? Would photos be useful? Let me know the areas to photograph and I'll try to get round to it today.

Regards,

John Larkin.

PS What did you do about the Araldited wall? Did you confess or move a cupboard?

I've taken some pictures that you can see on this thread

http://www.bondhouse.co.uk/p6roc....7;t=209

As I have the seal fitted at the moment there are two lips sitting outside the base unit. I'm pretty sure this is right and that the stainless trims fit over one lip and under another (this is the outer one you can see with everything fitted up.

The bit I'm not 100% clear about is whether both the lips fit over the top of the roof panel. (Should be able to see from the photos on other thread) That is how I have it arranged at the moment but it seems to cause the top trim across the windscreen to sit up.

I realise it might not be easy to tell with all the trim on so just take a quick glance and tell me what you think.

Many thanks

Bennet

Hi All,
Just had this message back from the Aussie Wheel People:

"Hello
Thank you for your interest in our wheels. Unfortunately we do not make the challenger wheel for the vehicle. However we do our superlite wheel for it.
Regards
Darren Summers"

Oh well it was worth a try! as for offset on the P6 wheels I dont have a clue, but I do know the Cherokee alloys I have on my P6 have an offset of et37
Cheers
AL

I understand from Bennet that original P6 wheels are 6.4" (c162mm) between outer rim faces. The distance from the inner rim face to the hub face of the wheel (backspacing) is 5" (127mm). The offset is the difference between the wheel centreline (half of 162mm) and the backspacing: 127mm minus (162mm/2) = (127-81)mm = 46mm, say +/- 2mm to allow for measuring errors. This is a positive ET value (+ET46).

That probably explains why I needed spacers to clear the strut on the front, I have added a 5mm spacer which would bring the et up to 42, or have I got that all wrong?
Cheers

Hey there, if anyone wants to see what any of the http://www.northhantstyres.com wheels look like on their car, email me a side on photo of your car with the front wheel on the same angle as the photos on the above website and I can put them on your car for ya!

(I'm a graphic designer) hazara (the at symbol) paradise.net.nz

Would be fun to have a bit of a play.

Don't forget to send me a link to the rims your wanting tho!
