Alloy Wheels again - Found some lovely ones

Hi all in rover P6 land, now I have been looking for some smart alloy wheels for the rover P6, and it was mentioned in another thread that Buick wheels would fit, so after much scouring of the internet I believe I have found the solution, a UK supplier of buick fitment alloy and steel wheels.
Have a look at www.northhantstyres.com They list some super dooper wheels with a 5x5 stud pattern (I am assuming this is what the P6 has) I especially like some of the Cragar and american racing wheels pure class.
Cheers

Some of them are nice. I quite like the smoothies, do you they think they would suit a P6? No prices though did you get any quotes from them?

Not yet, got to buy a P6 first! anyone want a Mk3 Golf Gti 2.0 8v? I will swap it for a P6 with 12 months MOT and Leather - has to be pre '73 (tax exempt!) and a manual and not brown, her indoors stipulated the not brown bit, I quite like them in brown, but she went all Waynetta when I mentioned a brown car, I can't understand it, after all she likes brown cake!

I think its bedtime Johhny

I personally thought Cragar SS wheels would look good on Ron, but they cost 2/3 what I paid for the car !!. Check the offset (backspace), I still have a luvly set of Buick Riviera wheels if anybody wants them (you will need to bash the wheel arches to make them fit, since they stick out to much))

Brown is a boring colour unless its chocolate or beer. It does not show the P6 at its best, even Grey (with red leather) looks better ! (in my humble opinion). Go on get that P6 !, there's always Almond

Hi Ron,
The SS wheels were the ones I was looking at as well, but like you said a full set with tyres is going to be a large proportion of the value of the car, but I have a cunning plan, I will be scouring US eBay listings for unilug Cragar ss wheels and if they are cheap enough ship them to the UK (You must understand that I am just dreaming here unlike the purchase of a P6 which looks very imminent – the golf is getting an MOT tomorrow ready to be put on sale this weekend and I have a number of possible P6s to choose from, ohhh I am sooo excited!)

Hi AL,

Before you submit a bid on anything from america via eBay remember to add the high import tax that customs hit you with when the parcel/crate arrives in this contry. They even include the cost of postage in their calculation! But then to add insult to injury they then add V.A.T and to top it off the Post Office and £8-£10 because of the delay in postage due to Customs examining your item. I know this as a £185 ornament I was successful on bidding on cost me £240 by the time Customs had finished with me.

HI All,
For those that are interested, I have just discovered that the Jeep Grand Cherokee (post '99) has the same stud pattern as the P6 (5x5" or 5x127 in metric) They are obviously not going to fit with the huge 4x4 tyres on but something with a lower profile might work. Just need to find out the offset etc, relatively cheap too, check it out on eBay also on ebay NEW alloys in P6 fitment do a search for SD1 alloys
Cheers

UPDATE: I have just recieved an e-mail back from the guy with new P6 alloys on ebay, I asked if the 17" rims he has would fit under the rear arches of a P6 - here is his reply:

"I have been reliably informed they will fit the P6 with no problems - you could even fit 18s. I was amazed when we first started trying these wheels on the older Rovers - a lad with a SD1 on 14s tried the 18s and I never expected them to fit for a moment, but they went straight on with plenty of space for tyres. I have now sold many sets for SD1, and it was while talking to a Rover specialist that he told me they would also go on the P6. If you are at all worried, and can bring the car here, you'd be welcome to try fitting them before bidding/buying.

Does anyone else think the white ones look like they are made of plastic?

UPDATE 3: Prices for chrome ones - £325 for 17s and £375 for 18s only £80odd per wheel, not bad!
Yes I know tyres are extra, but I consider tyres to be consumables, like petrol. So when I need to replace the tyres, I may as well replace them with modern rubber. Just out of interest is anyone else out there running low profile tyres?

Those white wheels are horrible! Sorry but it just has to be said. I have a very nice set of Superlite (ie Minilite made under licence) 16 inch wheels for my blue car. They look fantastic and the tyres whilst not rubber band thickness are lower than standard. I had a bit of trouble fitting them since despite the correct offset, and pattern there was less than 1/4 of an inch of clearance between the side wall and the inner wing. As you can all imagine, harsh words were said. I have now( as Ron so colourfully put it) "bashed the guards" to make them fit. All it required was to flare the arches 1 inch to make room. This also has the added advantage of making the car a little wider and looking more sporty.
I have heard tales of 18 inchers going on P6s but I think that the very thin tyre is not really in keeping with the style of the car. But I cant talk, I shoehorn more horsepower into everything that I own, so it makes sense to have more rubber on the ground. :p
Enough of my babbling, the 17 inch silvers look great and I hope to see a picture of them on the car soon!
Cheers
Guy.

Hi Guy,
I completely agree the white ones really are bad! Just out of interest what width are your 16" alloys and what size tyres do you have?
Cheers

Guy

Can you enlighten us as to how you flared the rear arches?

Also have you found any rubbing when going over bumps - I assume that you have standard suspension set-up?

...and what's wrong with grey with red leather? ???

I just picked up a 1965 grey + red leather car that had about £6,000 spent on it at JP Restorations in 2001. I also got the piccies and the video of the rebuild and the reciepts....

Shame is I can't keep it...
....to many Landrovers and Hearses knocking about.

Wait till you lot see my 'NEW' 6 wheel Landrover...
...she is getting built next week and yes she will be a V8 (21,000 miles from new....)

GOD! Life is hard....

Well

It is ex RAF and it does have the half tracks for the rear as well as normal road wheels...

The guy said something about machine gun mountings as well....

....It's tough living in the mountains of Wales! lol

Not - of course - that I would recommend doing anything to defraud H.M.'s tax collectors or anything but....
If the incoming package is clearly labelled "Samples Only. No Commercial Value" it usually (99.99999999999999%) gets through without these iniquitous surcharges being levied by the devils minions!

Now I would ever dream of advising such a course of action you understand!! :D :D

I've wasted countless wet winter hours searching the web for some alloys that would actually look good on my P6, but to no avail. Yesterday evening I stumbled across a photo on the Rover Car Club of Australia's website, shows a seriously low P6B V8 sporting a shiny copper gold metallic paintjob and some contemporary rims & tyres. I hope to get in contact with the owner and find out some more about these pukka wheels;

Another look through our Antipodean friends' website turned up a second lowered V8 P6B with a painted set of the same alloys as on the lary gold pimpmobile. A little more reserved this one, a nice grey/brown colour. Anybody identify it? An Australia-only colour, or a one-off paintjob? Looks like it doesn't rain much down there, eh!
