Accelerator Grommit!

Hello Folks, I need to replace the rubber grommet that passes through the bulkhead and goes over the connecting bar to the accelerator. In a
word. How the heck do I fit in on with out taking the linkage bar up to the carb off.!! All offers of help would be gratefully
welcome. Thank you. Moon Rover! Kevin

was it just me that read that in the voice of Peter Sallis as in wallace and grommit? Cheese Grommit!

Hello Rockdemon, I have just realised how my post looks.  So now it is a grommet or called summat else??? Either way I can't see how
to replace the pesky Grommet!! NB. Correct spelling.  I shall be chuckling about this all day.
Sincerely Moon Rover! Kevin Keeping on Rovering

Hi Kevin,

That is one of those tasks that is much easier to do when the engine is out. Of course barring such drastic action, probably the easiest procedure would be to cut the grommet down one side along its complete length. This will allow the grommet to locate around the rod behind the pedal, then insert into the aperture. Apply some silastic to seal the join and you're done.

Ron.

Hi Ron, Thanks for that!! I thought maybe that was only way to replace the grommet. Will get on with it later. Thankyou.

Just done mine while the heads were off . As above , nice clean cut with a stanley knife and super glue back together when in place . If you don't tell anyone , no one'll ever know :D

I've got one to fit to the throttle rod on HOT too and I wasn't sure whether to cut it or not. On a 4 cylinder car it's pretty tricky to get to the bottom of the linkage to disconect it as the carbs and heater hoses are in the way.

Now that we have had all the sensible cheat methods I would advise you hire Dynamo: Magician Impossible, surely a walk in the park for this gentleman, while he is at it he can change my petrol reserve O-ring in my V8.

He'd change it no problem - into the Ace Of Hearts, or summat.

Probably end up inside a bottle.

My Daughter went to University with his sister - don't know why I told you that, just a bit of info :)

Hello one and all, Thankyou very much for explaining how to fit the accelerator grommet or grommit!!  It took me 20 minutes.
Sliced it with a modellers knife slid it on superglued and silicone around inside. Jobs a good un. Now where's the cheese tray!!
Thanks. Moon Rover! Kevin. Keeping on Rovering

Certainly makes fitting easier - I did mine the hard way by removing the bulkhead bracket and throttle link. I don't have long term faith in instant glue, especially in a hot engine bay, so I didn't slice mine. It is possible to do with the engine in place - you need to remove the air cleaner and have patience.

My fingers are long and very large, so if I can do it most folk should be able to cope.

Hello 61973, Thanks for your reply. Yes the involvement quite serious! However as can be seen all wasn't lost. Hope it holds up. I would imagine
there is more of an issue with under bonnet temperatures with the V8 than the 4 pot version. To be honest the V8's scare the living
daylights out of me!! In the 80's a local guy had one. Boy oh boy was that fast, I am sure as God is my judge I thought I may die!!
He gave me a lift to somewhere local, knowing full well I had the 2000sc variant. We bowled into this corner at great rate of knots. And do you
know what!!?? The P6 just dipped its nose and went round the corner as if on rails!!!  Albeit it felt as if the door handles were
going to touch the road. Now you can take it he was as mad as hatter or very BRAVE. If nothing else it convinced me that A P6 will handle
if pushed!! :) :) Thank you. Moon Rover! Kevin. Keeping on Rovering

Unfortunately I don't have much faith in the replacement grommets - mine now needs replacing again after about 4 years. So this time I'll do it the easy way and see if the rubber outlasts the glue.
