2200TC carbs - interchangeable?

Possibly a stupid question!. But will the carbs for a 2200TC fit a 2000TC? Im talking about the whole assembly including the inlet manifold.

I'm keen on this subject. I have a 2200 TC set of carbs sitting here (a gift from a UK friend) but I face the concept of cable operated carbs on a rod system car. If you figure out how to make this modification, I'd love to know.

The discussion we had before the gift was how to make my 2000 TC idle better. Some of my expert friends over here figure the HS8 carbs were too big a diameter of air intake for the engine and HS 6 would allow better idling.

Didn't the SC have HS6 carbs? The SC seems to idle better, apparently.

You really need to have an understanding of what you are doing to get any twin carb set up to idle properly and to perform properly and SU's of any variety are no exception. The SC only has a single carb so getting it to run right is much easier. If you do afew searches on this topic on here you should find some detail procedures as to how to do it right; there are quite a few wrinkles you won't find in most instruction books!

As to whether these carbs are too big, I'd say definitely not. This is about the right sort of choke area for the engines power output, if you tuned it by much there would be a case for going up to twin 2". A big Healy, for instance, tuned to say 170hp would be running TRIPPLE 2". The big advantage of the SU design is that the choke area is actually variable. At low power demand the pistons drop to reduce the choke area and restore intake air velocity. Fixed choke carbs like most American carbs and most Webbers, don't do this and suffer from very low air velocity at low revs. This makes getting the petrol into the engine in a combustible form difficult and hence they suffer from poor slow running and idling. SU's therefore win on most fronts if set up properly, about their only drawback is that the choke throat isn't optimised for maximum power where they cede victory to Webbers.

Hi Eric,
Assuming that you have the 2200 inlet manifold and carbs you are halfway there :D,
you will need the cable, cable to rod relay and the longer throttle rod, (all of this is standard on the 2200TC),
The only "mod" that i made was to drill a small hole in the relay pivot to accomodate the kickdowm cable (Hermione was originally a 2000sc auto),....[img=http://img237.imageshack.us/img237....th.jpg]

when i first fitted the TC head i used the HD8 set up,but i could never get an even idle,at first i thought it was down to the experimental head porting that i carried out,the front carb ran a weaker mixture than the rear and i spent days trying to get the carbs to run right
I think the main reason was the jet diaphrams had gone hard and wouldn't flex enough to allow the jets to move.
The carbs are now HIF6's, which in my opinion are a lot easier to keep in tune.

So, the 2200 TC inlet manifold is different from the 2000 TC one?

Demetris

As far as i can see the alloy part of the manifold looks the same apart from one small detail,.....one of the the cast lugs that the water pipe is secured to is in a different place,
