Last year I took my P6 around France on the Beaujolais Run, just before we left I had the carb rebuilt by SU (Burlen) but as it was all a bit last minute, didntget it properly tuned until we got home...

Classic Cars of Kent fiddled and tweaked with it and got the power at the wheels up from below 40 to 70BHP, a very noticable difference!

Heres the car flat out on the rollers, enjoy

Yeah, those stickers came off in June when I was getting some dirty looks in traffic, wish Id left them on now...

To be fair, they were very generous when it came to charity and bunged us loads of cash with no hesitaion

40 bhp to 70 bhp makes a huge difference when driving, i'll bet!

Reinforces my own experience with Lucky, which was 60 bhp to 112!

To get the full value out of this, you must ensure you have the engine basics right first. Things like cam timing (decently new timing chain on a V8, vernier adjustment set on a four), tappet clearances correctly set, new ignition components available or fitted.

Hi Chris,

Yes, it made a huge difference! And used way less fuel as it wasnt struggling to haul itself along.

This had the head replaced and unleaded valves not very many thousand miles ago, and had been serviced just before we took it to France, although since then Ive replaced the dizzy cap & rotor arm with bits from the Distributor Doctor as it started cutting out on longer journeys, and they seemed likely culprits.

That's very impressive indeed! I'd love to get my car set-up properly at some point, as I can't help thinking that its performance could be improved quite a bit with some tweaking! How much did it cost you to get the car set-up properly, if it's not a rude question? :)

Nick, I did enjoy the seeing it on the rollers, its not just quicker but smoother now. Now I need to sort a new choke cable so it starts easily then its prertty much perfect.

Frazzle, I dont remember exactly what they charged, I think it was a bit over £100, but they did something else and gave me a deal as it was sort of 'mates rates' . Classic Cars of Kent arnt the cheapest around but are one of the best - there arnt many places who do proper classic tuning

Amazing how a few tweaks can find 30 BHP

I d' rather put it the other way around.

Amazing how easy it is to loose 30 BHP when not everything is spot on!
