1976 p6b 3500 trailer lights connector location?

rovers in aus

i recently picked up this 1976 p6b 3500 auto and it has a trailer hitch but there doesn't appear to be a connector for trailer lights anywhere, there was some connectors with wires sitting in the boot loosely so it seems like someone has had trailer lights working before or perhaps planning on installing them somehow..
does anyone know where the connector would be or if i will need to wire in a new one, if wiring a new one in is in order how would i go about doing it??

thanks

You will find wiring diagrams in both the owner's manual and the workshop manual - get a soft copy of this last from the P6 owners club is the cheapest option. The diagram will have wires listed as pick up points for a trailer coupling - try to identify the wires from their colour codes - first letter is main wire colour, second is the 'trace' colour - narrow line . eg UB is Blue with a Black trace. Then you need a map of which pin in the connector does what - eg tail light, earth, left and right indicator, and brake light.

is the relevant wiring the same as a 2000?? because i have both the factory and the haines workshop manual for them

on the right side of the boot next to the battery and probably under the covering for the inner guard there are connections for all the tail lights including the left blinker and number plate light. Thats where you connect in the trailer harness. The actual routing of the harness isn't really specified anywhere but the logical route is to follow the number plate wiring as it goes to the same place. There is nowhere on the car to mount the plug. most are mounted on the tow hitch somewhere near the ball. standard parts suppliers will have all the parts including the colour coded cable.

On my wiring diagram (86.00.01 sheet 7), items 36 (nr LH tail lamp), 49 (nr boot light), 80, 81, 95, 114(lh turn),116(rh turn),118 (stop light) are all listed as 'pick up point for 7 pin trailer socket'.
To expand on this(now that I havea tow bar tongue!)-
CCT ref colour code location no?
18 RO 5
36 RB 6
49 P 7
80 LGP 8
81 LGP 13
95 GR 3
99 LGP 12
100 GW 4
114 G 10
116 G 9
118 GP 11
Why are there 11 pick up points for a 7 pin connector?
Does anyknow where the number codes refer to on the car please? There is a note in the WSM "Encircled figures and letters denote printed circuit and plug pickup points on printed circuit board - figure for pin number, letter for plug." This doesnt help me locate anything .
thanks

Here is the off-side boot wall showing leads. The red wire is side lights, green-purple is stop lights, black is ground. RH turn is green-white, reverse green-brown. LH turn in the nearside guard should be green-red.The purple wire going left is where previous owner connected a centre brake light.
